The drivers have a right to protect themselves or just not deliver the package.

It's on you to keep your dog in a fenced location in the backyard.

Your dog is interfering with their ability to do their job. Do the right thing and keep it inside, or fence off an area in the backyard.

I know. Op is a complete idiot and terrible dog owner. She should be ashamed of her behavior and poor training, and yet she continues to act clueless with her posts.

Your blasted dog is stressing out all these people RIGHT NOW. Even without biting them. The delivery people don’t know the dog is friendly. You are making their lives miserable, you horrible person. Shame on you!

Get your dog inside, or in the backyard, or fence your front yard separately from the driveway and porch. Lots of options, but you’re too selfish and entitled to implement them. My dog stays inside.

Stop letting your dog stay out front to scare all the delivery people!!! You are 100% at fault here.

You’re giving all of us dog owners a bad name. What is wrong with you????!!!

+1 unbelievable OP

Delivery driver here. I would not deliver to your house. If I am walking towards your door and your dog tries to attack me, I am sorry to say that I will deal with it. You will not have vet bills.

Op has to be a troll. Let's look at what she's posted

1. Mail carrier has to honk for OP to retrieve her dog she they can deliver mail
2. Other delivery drivers have to throw treats at the dog to get the dog away from them
3. Op wonders if she's responsible for her dog getting hit
4. Op uses the term "all bark no bite" like that somehow makes her dogs actions ok (because everyone obviously knows her dog is harmless).
5. Dog is left out alone
6. Dog is a barker

Hits on all the hot dog topic pet peeves people post about.

Oh you know OP is that terrible person who would call complaining about you. People like OP suck and represent what's wrong with society.

Our dog is all bark and no bite, but I admit she can definitely seem aggressive to delivery drivers. I work from home and sometimes the dog is outside when a driver pulls up. I always go out there immediately and call the dog to me. In the intervening minute or two, most drivers toss a few treats out and the dog is fine. One regular just ignores her while our dog barks at him. Mail carrier honks her horn until I come out.

The other day our stupid dog ran barking at the truck, and when I went out there, the driver was facing her with an aluminum baseball bat. He put the bat down as soon as he saw me. I called the dog, and it was fine.

I get it. I think everyone has a right to self defense against a dog. I STRONGLY PREFER that drivers would have a non-lethal and non-injurious method like pepper spray or an air horn. But I get it.

So, what happens if the driver gets scared and takes a swing? Can they be sued for damages? (In a situation where the dog is NOT actively attacking, just acting aggressive and scary).

I don't think you'll have vet bills, because if your dog is aggressive enough that someone needs a bat to defend themselves, then animal control will put them down. Or at least they should.

A person can defend themselves against an animal if they feel threatened. They don’t need to wait until they’re bitten. Your dog doesn’t have rights.

A delivery person can sue you if he trips while running away from your dog.

You are taking a big risk by letting your dog run loose. Big.

Are you for real right now? You have lost all sense of perspective.

I have never had a dog. I like dogs, but have never had one as a pet. So neither have my kids. I am very uncomfortable with dogs jumping on me and aggressively sniffing, licking, etc. If I had to drop off something at your house and your aggressively barking dog was in front I wouldn't take a chance. Unfortunately, delivery drivers don't really have a choice.

Can you move the dog to the backyard? Or post a big sign for drivers to honk, at the very least.

OP, you cannot keep leaving your dog out front if you know it reacts like this - it's not fair to delivery drivers or the dog. You know your dog is "all bark and no bite" but strangers don't, and a 50 pound dog barking aggressively would scare many people. The driver shouldn't have pulled out a bat but I could see them choosing not to deliver your packages if they don't feel safe.

Op here. Just to clarify, our mailbox is on the road, she doesn't get out of her vehicle to deliver the daily mail. Just occasionally if she has a package that doesn't fit in the mailbox, she drives into the driveway and honks. If I don't come out, she drives away with the package and tries again the next day.

What is wrong with you?

Yes, if your dog is that aggressive that the delivery driver would feel the need for a baseball bat, they do not get paid enough to deal with you and your clear lack of taking care of your dog!

Drivers should not have to deal with protecting themselves when they come to your home.

Civil suit and you will lose

They can choose to drive away without delivering the package.

I am playing devil's advocate a bit here. My husband is the one who strongly believes the driver would be in the wrong if he hit our dog with a bat (unless he was actually getting attacked) . I'm not so sure, but I would hope a driver wouldn't hit the dog just because she's barking and looking scary. We should probably get a security camera.

You may be playing devil's advocate, but you and your husband are both morons.
