So if you don't want games far away, I would pick VYS for 08 boys. Arlington ECNL is better and Alexandria mlsnext is even better, but both of those would require travel to a lot farther away games. VYS plays in a league where there are two teams in Richmond, one near Williamsburg, and all the rest are in NOVA. |

Is this confirmed? I heard that they would remain. |
Listen this really isnt the place or the forum for that. Frankly it's unnecessary. |
Lets assume it is confirmed since they are running 07 tryouts. Would any 07 players leave an ECNL team for a MLS next team, knowing they might only play in that league for 1 year ? Would the ECNL team take the player back after that ? |
If you are scared that your old club won’t take you back, you aren’t talented enough to make MLSNext and you picked the wrong club in the first place. |
The clubs will argue that they will be given one additional age group every year., allowing the players to play MLSNext all the way to college. For those knowing McLean, Loudoun, and Arlington's experience with DA, it might be a hard sell... |
SYC is already getting "visitors" from surrounding clubs... SYC 2007, 2008 and 2009 boys are already top teams in Gotsoccer. |

| I don't know where the comment about leaving MLSNext after one year is coming from. This may be a post from an competing club coach that wants to keep the gravy chain rolling and scaring parents into staying. Bottom line is you go where you think your kid will develop the best over the next few years, not where the team is good and you win a lot of games. This is one of those totally selfish decisions that you make for your DD. Focus on your kids development and you are doing it right. |
| SYC and Alexandria only have MLS teams at the u13 and u14 age groups. The question is whether the 2007s will play MLS as u15s. In other words, is MLS only granting SYC and Alexandria two age groups (u13 and u14) or next year will it expand those clubs to three age groups (u13, u14 and u15). The former DA had clubs that did not have all age groups - Arlington and McLean were two such clubs. So is MLS going to handle like former DA? |
Yep. You have been “asking this question” in one form or another on multiple threads for quite some time. We get it. Hello Arlington coach/parent. I don’t think these clubs think about it quite like the aforementioned thought of it - grasping for status, etc. and I think the parents and players understand that this is principally an opportunity to play against top notch competition U13-14 and potentially get more looks as a feeder to DCU. If it extends, great. If it doesn’t, I don’t think it really makes any difference. And if ECNL kids are good enough to make the cut, they are probably good enough to go back, and if they aren’t, what are they worried about anyway? (And of the club is vindictive about it, they are at the wrong place.) |
| ^ good try PP. Not sure about asking this question before but I’m a MLS Next parent already. I’m trying to understand if I’m traveling to NJ all season or getting a few local games. |
I don’t think that’s what you asked at all, and I think you should already be talking with your club directly about that. Making travel plans already? Not sure how the answer to extension gives you insight into these odd questions. You will get local matches either way; you may have to travel more if they extend, but didn’t you already know that? |
Then you should know that schedules have already been posted on the MLSNext website. |
