The clubs all play out of the county. we had a home game about an hour away. If you watched her testimony about the loss of hotel rooms, 5000 and soon to be 10,000 that is a lot of lost revenue.

Look at the Jeff Cup this past weekend. We had an early Friday game so 3 nights, you have to wonder how many others did a 3 night stay, just the tax revenue from the rooms, add on the food and beverage. Richmond did a great job with it.

She shouldn't have made it all about Potomac but about all the clubs

That’s a good point.

I just looked up the Potomac website. Why are they just doing a tournament for Boys? It sends a bad message that they don’t care for girl. Talk about inequality.

This has been an issue for many years. They only do boys and don't seem interested in having it for girls too. This is one of the reasons we left the club.

That is not true. They did have a tournament with boys and girls years ago, but they didn't get as many girl teams to show, so they dropped them. They tried for several years to bring girls teams back to the tournament, but with a tournament in Virginia and Columbia the same weekend, they couldn't get enough teams to show.

PSA sponsored a tournament for girls last year out at the beach in DE. Would have been fantastic ... but well 2020 ... hopefully they can get that back in the table in 2022.

There are several issues at play here.

Firstly, teams from outside of the DMV can't come to play here either, and most of the teams who play in the high school division are from outside of the DMV.

Secondly, the mask mandate means no one wants to come here and play.

Thirdly, juniors on the east coast really need a big college showcase in order to attract recruiters. It is one of the bigger tournaments in this region for sure.

Lastly, there are other Memorial weekend tournaments in the DMV in Columbia and Richmond, which means it's not easy to pick up a large tournament and move it elsewhere. Not to mention the soccerplex has to be hemorrhaging money at this point.

BSC has spoken at this meeting and actively advocated the last meeting for their tournament they had to move to Columbia.

BSC also got to have half of their November tournaments with teams outside of the DMV with no masks at a time that cases were rising.

Last year Potomac launched a girl's tournament in Delaware and it had to be canceled due to covid, this year that was put on pause due to covid, but I expect next year we will see a push once things get back to normal. The boys and girls get the same number of tournaments, however, the girls cost more because they have to pay for their end-of-season tournament whereas the boys are free because it's their own tournament. Both girls and boys pay the same fees, so it is very equitable. The boys don't get something extra.

Is Potomac that stupid to launch a tournament in DE? Delaware? And during COVID? I am just speechless. I guess there’s no point in trying to understand stupid.

Yes there is no point in understanding you. you have no understanding of how soccer tournaments are held or you wouldn't say something so stupid.

BSC had to move the April tournament or all the teams would pull out.

There was actually going to be a waiver to go a little higher. It was the mask issue that killed it.

True in principle. . . but you can't trust that you will get the waiver and in the fall, the county pulled a waiver without any notice on a tournament. And the county changed rules on soccerplex during the summer, without any notice. Any scenario the local club loses.

Tried to launch PP - before COVID was even a consideration. Cancelled. Like everything else in 2020.

Great comeback. You kissing Potomac butt won’t get you anywhere, my friend.

Anyhow, look at the DMV clubs that have tournaments. Anyone of them have out of state tournaments? No. They are all in state. And you’re trying to say that it’s good business sense to launch an out of state tournaments? Haha. Anyhow, talk to you later Laurie.

I have to agree here. Of all places, why do a tournament in Delaware?

I’m not any of the PP but from my perspective, this doesn’t look good. IMHO, Potomac shows little regards to Girls Soccer but when they try to do a Girls Tournament, they do it 2+ hours driving distance away from the DMV?

It was launched in DE pre-covid and was canceled due to Covid.

I believe DE was chosen because having it here wouldn't solve the issue of competing with local clubs for local tournaments the same weekend. It was a start. I know a lot of girls (including my own) were excited about going to the beach for a tournament. To each their own.

They have tried to launch memorial tournaments here, but there are very competitive ones both in Columbia and NoVa the same weekend and as such no one wants to play in a new tournament, they'd rather play in an established one. So the DE was an idea they had to try to see if it worked. There is only a finite number of tournament available weekends at the soccerplex due to league play, and other tournaments and events.

Laurie Lane came across very aggressive, disingenuous and a liar. She didn’t represent Potomac Soccer well at all.

While nothing might have changed MoCo’s vote, having her speak was detrimental in getting the rules changed. I think she also damaged Potomac’s reputation.

Nothing she said was incorrect. All of her points were totally accurate. Moco politicians are pathetic

On the topic of Potomac and girls, they have a numbers problem at the younger ages. Though who knows how much a fluke with COVID and if it will turn around.

This is changing. Loads of girls have come in at the very youngest age group in the last few months.

Just because they came in doesn’t mean they will stay.

Laurie’s approach and tact is completely wrong. Everyone knows/recognizes that MoCo leadership (Exec/Council) is extremely risk adverse. They completely side within COVID risks instead of the business risk. Hence, by saying that MoCo & hotels will loose over 5000 hotel rooms revenue doesn’t mean anything to them. It actually scares them more about the COVID spread from overcrowding hotels and surrounding restaurants from this tournament. Secondly, she should know better than trying to bully or force politicians in a public forum.

Her approach should have been what Potomac will do to not only meet CDC’s recommendations but how it will exceed it. Potomac can work with a travel agent to spread the use of all MoCo hotels so that no hotel will be overcrowded. Implement a plan to verify COVID vaccinations, on the spot temperature checks, rapid COVID testing, contact tracing. Each team is required to have 1-2 adults that will be responsible for ensuring that everyone (players and parents) abide by the rules otherwise the team would be immediately ejected from the tournament. I can go on and on.

While what I said might not change MoCo’s vote, Laurie’s approach was the surefire to get the rejection from MoCo.
