That’s a good point. I just looked up the Potomac website. Why are they just doing a tournament for Boys? It sends a bad message that they don’t care for girl. Talk about inequality. |
This has been an issue for many years. They only do boys and don't seem interested in having it for girls too. This is one of the reasons we left the club. |
That is not true. They did have a tournament with boys and girls years ago, but they didn't get as many girl teams to show, so they dropped them. They tried for several years to bring girls teams back to the tournament, but with a tournament in Virginia and Columbia the same weekend, they couldn't get enough teams to show. |
They don’t have to do it the same weekend. Regardless of the reason/excuse, it doesn’t look good especially when USWNT is fighting for equality with the men. Every club I know does both. |

Ummm, no normal person is accepting of the mask mandate in Montgomery County. Potomac will go bankrupt as a result. Bethesda moved Bethesda Cup out of Montgomery County because of the mandate. Many said they were going to withdraw due to the mandate.
Pretty sure Montgomery County is the only county in Maryland State along with the DMV that says players have to wear masks while playing. We've played all around the beltway and Jefferson Cup without having to wear masks while playing. Parents wearing masks, players wearing masks while not playing is more than enough. There is little to zero evidence game situations have resulted in transmission of CoVid. That is a fact. I'm sorry if the truth offends you. |
She's not a politician and even if she was it doesn't make lying right. The club should be able to balance its books based on enrollment numbers and the fees it elects to charge. And it looks like they got over $225K from the government to address COVID shortfalls. She lied. |
Someone from BSC testified at the hearing before this one about this. Completely wrong. |
This. Correct that everyone was going to withdraw from Bethesda Cup. Tournaments have been going on left and right around the region. Alexandria, Arlington, Baltimore, etc. A policy decision like this doesn't work or have any public health impact when you are on an island by yourself and all the activities still happen with MoCo teams in surrounding counties, and the same people come back who live and practice in county. It doesn't make sense to begin with, but it really doesn't make sense when you're the only one. Just loses the county revenue, kills local youth sports travel clubs, and sends parents driving further because they can't have home games. |
| At this point, MoCo should remove the mask mandate. While I strongly believe in masking when my DD plays, I say let other parents decide for their respective DC. Parents that are risk adverse have already prevented their DC from playing since the pandemic started and while others are wearing masks. I am saying this for outdoor sports only. |
Absolutely 100% agree. Thank you. |
I didn't know this. I thought it was at the soccerplex. |
|
Perhaps the bigger issue than the masks right now is the limit to 50 which a 11 v 11 game means no spectators. Why would parents travel from out of state Travel to not be able to watch the game - and the kids wear masks.
BSC had to move the April tournament or all the teams would pull out. |
| BSC tournament on April 2-3 was moved to Covenant Park in Elliot City |
There was actually going to be a waiver to go a little higher. It was the mask issue that killed it. |
100% again. It simply does more harm than good in the big picture for outdoor sports. |
