+1. lots of trumpers.

Yes, ultra conservative. I may be wrong, but I heard Laura Ingraham has sons there? Whether she does or not, though, hers is the kind of viewpoint that is pervasive at this school.

Serious question, are you actually familiar with the school or are you making assumptions?

NP, is the school not extremely conservative and Trumpy?

We attended and were not Catholic. You need to understand that conservative and "Trumpy" do not go hand in hand. There are many political conservatives like us who are not and never will be Trumpers. We just believe in a small federal government, more power should be given to the states to control and make important decisions because they are closer to their own constituents, and the federal government should not tax and spend like the democrats do. It should tax only for the things that states cannot do: such as postage, militia, some federal highways, etc. The states are supposed to be doing everything for themselves and acting as incubators on controversial ideas or problems so the other 49 can follow. So we are Madisonian Conservatives. There are many like that at the Heights. There are many pro-life advocates (of course) at the Heights; there are also many anti death-penalty (a liberal point of view) because they are Catholic. So you cannot assume that just because someone is a Conservative that they are a Trumper. And Vice versa. Same with Republicanism - that's the party - we stopped being members of the party when Trump became the candidate in 2016. All that being said, the primary focus of the school is Catholicism and it is Opus Dei and Opus Dei members will be teaching your children. You have to be comfortable with that. It is also very much sink or swim. Don't expect any hand holding. And they don't believe in SN issues like ADHD, dyslexia, executive functioning, etc. You would be wise to select a SN school if your son has those issues.

Has there ever been a time that red states are financially independent? What about spending under red presidents?

Take it to the politics forum. The question being discussed is the political views represented in the parental community at the Heights. This is not the place to debate the views themselves.

But it's important to let someone interested in it to know that just being conservative doesn't mean you are a Trumpster. A lot of people don't even understand basics like that.

What I took note of is that many decided to stay at The Heights even though DC got in at other popular schools (Prep, Gonzaga, SJC).

We are looking at Oakcrest for our daughter. In our visits there (virtual and in-person) we didn't notice much difference from the other MS we looked at (re:
their Opus Dei theology).

What made them decide to apply out in the first place?

Two were legacy students at another HS. I assume they want to see what options they had. Not sure about the other.

I wrote, "Heights = Opus dei = incredibly conservative patriarchal." I do not have a child there, but do have a next door neighbor with boys there. Those neighbors I know well. And when our child reached MS, and we were unhappy with the curriculum, they recommended their school. I knew the reputation, I knew the neighbors, and visited an open house anyway. Confirmed that the rumors were true.

It is just factually true that the Heights is where you go if you find Jesuits too liberal.

Yes, The Madisonian Conservative believes the president is the commander of the military. See here. Or do you want 50 armies? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madisonian_model

Very true. Do not send a SN kid there.

My extraordinarily liberal aunt and uncle sent my cousin there. We are non-Catholics but Christian and ethnic.

He had a wonderful experience there. I thought they focused a lot on classic literature (to this day he is more well-read than me as a lit major in college) and what I would deem life-themes of being a good person overall. I don't think I would send a kid there who wants to do robotics and STEM.

Yes. Big classics curriculum as well as oakcrest. I wouldn’t find their curriculum the same as any regular catholic k-8.

The heights also believes in letting boys be outside and exploring as much as possible.

The Heights has a significant Latino/Hispanic population - likely because Opus Dei was founded by a Roman Catholic Spanish priest.
