I wasn’t saying it’s a reason not to go to school 5 days. You are forgetting what it’s like to be a teen. A lot of kids don’t want to go to school and are used to being lazy at home. Mine included! I was more venting that DC was complaining by text about possibly having to get up earlier 5 days per week and already looking for ways out. I’m sure I’m not the only parent who will hear that. I’m looking forward to the summer. This has been the longest year ever. |
How are they planning this with 6 feet of distancing, especially in middle and high school. Do they have the room for this? How about lunch? Asking for a friend. 😉 |
They won’t be 6 feet of social distancing if all students are back full time. |
His weekly update was very clear that the plan is for K-5 to be back 5 days a week after April 6, and the rest of the grades hopefully to follow. It is not all over the falls church city parents for schools facebook page because that group seems to only thrive on bad news. |
100% agree. I keep hearing of high schoolers who don't want to return to the classrooms because they like doing school from their beds. WTF? My high schooler is required to get out of bed, get dressed, and do school from a desk every day. Also required to get outside and get moving several times a day during breaks. OF COURSE kids like having little to do on Mondays and would love a 4-day week. In fact, let's just cancel school altogether and who cares if they learn little-to-nothing this year..... |
It sounds like yours didn’t learn little to nothing, especially since they were dressed and sitting at a desk... Why are you so upset? The high school is letting them come 4 days per week now and phasing it in by grade. They already said it’s all juniors and seniors and sophomores will be next week. Freshman will likely be the following week. Now your kid can log onto virtual classes from the school instead of the desk if you want. Do you think full day Mondays for 4th quarter for this age group will make that much of a difference in terms of education? Mine are planning on staying home for their virtual days as long as possible. You said you make yours go outside during the day. So do I. It will finally be nice this week and sitting inside all day doesn’t sound good to any of us in our family. |
I'm not upset; it just seems crazy to me that we're having a discussion about whether or not our kids should get to take Mondays off or be in school. And yes, I do think 20% more school and instruction will make a difference in their education. |
I would agree with you if this was earlier in the year but I agree with the kids a little bit. This is disruptive to their schedules to switch all of their classes and routines only for Q4. I would feel differently if I had young children at home. I’d want my back 5 days per week ASAP if they were still little. |
The original post in this thread regarding the plan to return 5 days a week was posted a couple of hours before Noonan sent out his reopening email update, so most people were still unaware- but nice effort to get a dig in at the FCC-parents for schools group.. There have subsequently been multiple posts discussing it on their Facebook page and I for one completely credit them for putting the necessary pressure on the administration to take this step forward. |
Looks like things are still on track for elementary students to return full time after spring- and they will be ending concurrent learning! We are so excited! |
Us too!! I am hoping everyone who goes on vacation for spring break tests their kids before sending them in full-time. I'm paranoid about a spike in cases after spring break... |
