FCCPS Hybrid - first day!

My 1st grader has been on cloud nine all week. It’s been a total mood shift for everyone. We are delighted they are back and hoping full day is possible this year.

Does anyone know what the deal is with the FCCPS school board? Lawrence Webb “moved” and now Shawna Russell is stepping down. What is the scoop here?

Lawrence Webb didn’t actually move?? I thought he and his partner bought a house in Springfield where is is more affordable?

He did! It just was an odd thing to be a longtime elected official, the only black elected official and then to move outside of the jurisdiction.

Why is that odd? He and his partner found a house they wanted and it was outside the 2.2 square foot City of Falls Church.

I think the abuse the school board has taken on the renaming process and school closures has taken a toll. They were getting crazy death threats by people not even from Falls Church over the school renaming debate. These are NOT professional politicians. This is more like community service. It's not surprising someone wanted to step down and get out of that mess.

Wow. That’s awful. Is that why Russell resigned? It seems very odd to resign not only mid-term but before the end of the school year.

Many do know that Noonan is very difficult to work with and keeps changing plans and making announcements without filling in staff. We don’t know how this has affected the board. Today is another example when he announced everyone will return 5 days a week after spring break and told them it is not another “pivot.” That’s exactly what it is to families and staff. He is not consistent and is terrible at communicating. The long videos are worse and he is constantly changing plans on staff and students after he said he would not.

Ugh. My middle schooler is loving hybrid. Going to school 2 days then at home 2 days plus Mondays to catch up. It’s actually great. Is it for everyone or just elementary?

High school students are not happy about this. School 5 days a week after being told they would have Mondays off the rest of the year. Mine is asking to only go 2 days and sign in virtually the other two days. The teachers were discussing today and don’t know how the schedule will look.

I'm sorry but that's ridiculous. Where was it ever stated that Monday's were off for the rest of the year? and why on earth should a school system be listening to a smattering of high school kids that don't want to go to school. I mean this is a version of the SCA president who runs on a platform of 'more recess'.
