Jack Evan’s car stolen from outside his home today?

Can we get back to policing now?

Wrong analogy - this is like a woman passed out drunk behind a dumpster and raped. As I recall that got an intrepid youngster a slap on the wrist of 30 days in prison and a dad who said -

How have TWO Councilmembers (ok, one former) done this in the past year?! Just turn the damn car off and take the keys like a normal person!

Ummm.... the jokes on you people

let's think- paid off car with little re-sale value gets " stolen"

hmmm........

You people are so eager to look down on a wealthy council member that you seem to miss the underlying...

who is is dumber ? You, or the guy who - on cue- steels the car

This theory really doesn't seem very smart. If the car's old, the insurance payment can't be more than a couple thousand right? Would a council member risk the fallout of being caught in such a scheme for that amount? When there is grift it is on a much larger scale.

It is entirely possible that Jack Evans leaves his car running because he DGAF about it, but I don't believe for a second that this was a blatant attempt at insurance fraud.

I don't know why the assumption is that if you live in a city you have to abandon trust and treat humanity as a dumpster fire. How about consequences for those who do bad things? Stop victim shaming ugh.

People are desperate these days. Think how many jobs have been lost. Think of the stress and frustration people feel. I’m not excusing crime but that is probably the reason we are seeing more of petty crime

You are kidding right? Please stop the excuses. Maybe people are desperately bored these days...and have discovered how many soft targets abound + lax car crime policing in the District.

They already wash their hands of all stolen car cases. They give you a CCN and you work it out with your insurance company. Done.

When/if they recover it later, they’ll call you. In the meantime you get the speed camera tickets the thieves accumulate while they drove it, and you get to deal with those too.

In MD it's illegal to leave your car running while unattended. It's meant to curb car thefts.

Why do people do this? Is it that difficult to turn your car off when you exit it?

Are these the same people that leave all the lights on in the house when they leave?

So you are going to simply apply the Brock Turner litmus test to justice for the rest of your life. Interesting. You are incapable of growth and looking beyond an injustice and being able to seek justice in other cases.

Why should I move on? Turner is only 24. Plenty of time to rape other women and prance home to mom's house in the suburbs.

Good summation of "the process"

Other than Cheh and Evans, Mendelson's gf had her car stolen at a gas station a few years ago: https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/dc-council-chairman-mendelsons-girlfriends-car-stolen-while-she-pumped-gas/54136/ at least she didn't leave the car running, but she had her purse in the car and the doors were unlocked.

So much for our elected “environmentalists”! LOL.

See NOLA 20 years ago. They took care of the problem right quick.

It’s funny because Evans is a jackass who parks illegally and leaves his Michael Scott style piece of crap convertible running all over town. That doesn’t mean that DCPD shouldn’t come down hard on these thieves. The other option is to give property owners enhanced rights to defend valuable property.
