That wouldn't get anybody locked up. In fact it was probably only able to be prosecuted because of the notoriety.

You really can’t be this dense. He was violent, towards very young girls. Black guys go to jail for years for selling a little bit of pot.

They are young but adult female/women. Not girls. .

This outcome is completely consistent with a first offense and no serious injuries. Even for a person of color.

People frequently get no jail in more serious attacks with an actual injury (eg a drunk fight).

This is pretty much par for the course for a white male who can afford a lawyer.

fixed it for you

Everyone can afford a pub defender and they’re often better than private practitioners.

Exactly, but of course that won’t stop the idiots with no idea of actual sentencing practices from spouting their usual nonsense.

Physically grabbing her and stealing her property isn't enough for you?

Good to know.

NP here. What is the normal range of sentences for second degree misdemeanor assault?

+1. It would have been a travesty if he got jail time for this.

What he deserved was a faceful of mace, to have police called and have him body slammed to the ground, handcuffed, thrown into a police cruiser, and taken in and booked for assault.

Considering that he went home, hid the clothes, took his bike apart and hid it in a storage unit blocks away from his house shows that he was trying to obscure the evidence and hide his crime. He definitely got the #whiteprivilege sentence.

Disgusting. White privilege at its finest. Terrible.

criminal defense lawyer here. Normal outcome. Regardless of race. In the COVID world even more so.

That wasn’t much of an assault.

Except that under these facts and especially during the pandemic, a black/brown defendant with the same lack of criminal history would also not have received jail time. Frankly, given the nature of this assault (and yes it was assault, but far less violent than many assaults), it might not have been prosecuted at all.

I know it doesn't fit with your agenda, but it is true.

I assume he ran his bike into the person taking the video and knocked that person over? Presumably that’s assault as well. This angry nutter should feel thankful to be on probation.

The bicycle guy is a total a$&. But I'll have to admit that I had no idea how low the threshold was for Assault, if that was in fact Assault. It was terrible and reprehensible behavior but you see worse as a pre COVID kids basketball game.

Anyway, glad that he got probation. I agree that without the timing he probably would have received nothing. I think he had previously been fired from his job after the incident. While that does not factor in the legal arena I feel like he has probably learned all that can be learned here.

What kind of kids basketball games are you going to? I've never seen pushing, shoving, or grabbing like that at my kids' basketball games. And they're in HS.
