Your kid might not return to a classroom this year.

there aren't enough spots NOW in private schools. Good luck with this.

the privates near us (which are mostly parochial) aren't open either

Where? All the parochial schools near me (western Fairfax/eastern Loudoun) are open.

We sort of gave up the ghost this year. No one is going back. Period.

Let's hope between the vaccine is available by this summer to the public. If it is, I'm sure classes will occur with masking.

+1
This bait-and-switch garbage is so insulting. Just announce that school is closed for the year until teachers are vaccinated. But once they are vaccinated, they’d better get back in the building, along with our kids. No more excuses.

Correct, your kid may not return.
Because Trump massively mishandled the pandemic. And lied about his incompetence.

And Senate Republicans pardoned him, keeping him in office. For judges and tax cuts. At the expense of your kids.

this. I will never, ever forgive those douchebags. They have so very much blood on their hands between Covid deaths and the insurrection.

LMFAO poor thing. Thinking either wing of the same birds gives a flying phuck about you.

please, the republicans knew trump was dangerous, but left him in power anyway. ANYONE ELSE might have at least TRIED to care.

You were all warned this man couldn't handle a crisis, and boy, did he ever prove it.

National Republicans are to blame - 100%.

It really is plain as day.

Really? Because from where I sit, the current school board is solely responsible for refusing to get kids and teachers back in school - not Trump. Plenty of school districts across the nation have been holding in-person classes for months. While Trump was president, btw.

So I blame the morons who insisted on voting for their fellow morons in the last SB election. The shameful and disgusting way school closures have been handled rest squarely on their shoulders. It really is plain as day.

Folks really need to stop hoping for a change from the schools. It’s NOT likely to happen this year. Soon we will be heading g about the new variants making it more risky. Find a new path forward. NoVa SBs are not going to provide a viable, satisfactory path.

It's January and the school year runs until June (unless they extend it, like they've been talking about). And you're ready to throw in the towel? (Okay, I am ready to throw in the towel too. But our sad household will revive if our kids are able to return to the building.)

Nobody with the position and power to do so has talked about extending the school year. There are contracts , it can’t be done. They COULD use CARES or state funding to open up summer school enrollment to any student who wants it instead of the typical allotment only allowed to students who need credit recovery. But they cannot just extend the school year when staff contracts end on the date they end.

Yes there are. People just don’t want to pay the tuition. But there are spots.

No, because you don’t actually plan to call these places and enroll your kid and pay the tuition. It’s all hot air. They’re all advertising open spots and enrollment openly and you could find it if you were actually seriously considering it... which you aren’t.

trust me, if I could find one that made sense near me, I will happily pay the tuition. I tried last night to look at the two closest catholic schools and can't find anything useful on their damn sites OR their social media.

but keep on believing people are just blowing hot air.

damn it, stupid quote thing - I somehow messed it up. I'm a little frustrated after a fight with my young elementary schooler over sitting her ass down in a chair and paying attention to the screen.

Well, the positivity rate for the Fairfax Health District has dropped below 11%, so that’s a good thing. It’s moving in the right direction.

Students will go back this school year, if just for the final few weeks so the school board can say they did it. The 2021-2022 school year, we're probably looking at a hybrid situation for most of the year, maybe 5 days by Spring of 2022 but should be 5 days by Fall of 2022.....hopefully

I hope so too. 3 day weekends is where happiness lays.
