| When I read evacuation plan, I assumed it was for attendees or specific buildings in the event of bomb threats. |
You are going to have to recheck your sources of information. |
wow. that is ... interesting. |
I live blocks from the capitol and am not worried. I’ve lived in a country with this type of civil unrest, and unless you are unlucky enough to be in the vicinity of a car bomb, it’s not like the seige of Sarajevo. There will be no artillery fire or bombs dropped from airplanes. For those of you who feel the need to “evacuate,” I hope you reflect on the US-led attacks that actually caused massive refugee flows and civilian damage abroad. |
Fellow neighbor here. I’m not going anywhere. In fact I will be out looking for militia to photograph. I do know people leaving but they are much closer to the capitol and directly impacted by road closures and staging national guard. |
Thanks, Lincoln Park neighbors. I almost booked a plane ticket last night and of course that is ridiculous and probably more of a risk than staying here - so scratched that idea. And then almost booked a stay we could drive to and again, risk wise, probably less safe to be on the road for a long trip than in our house. Of course, something bad could happen but that could happen any day of our lives in so many circumstances. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. They helped me work through this! |

You are more likely to die in the evacuation from a vehicle crash than you are to die from protesters.
We will stock up on groceries in case we need to shelter in place. |
Have you ever encountered a rush hour situation? minutes turn to hours. |
But will there be civil unrest in the single-family-detached-house communities of Rockville and Gaithersburg, or the multi-family-housing communities of Rockville and Gaithersburg? Incidentally, you're assuming that (1) people have a car to "jump into" (2) nobody else will have the idea of evacuating by car on 95 or 270 |
| People, you are giving points to the terrorist wannabes by getting all worked up and paranoid about having to evacuate D.C. next week. Seriously, what do you think will happen to precipitate a mass exodus? |
| There is no mass evacuating DC or the close-in suburbs (even outside the beltway). This has been discussed many times. People need to be able to shelter in place. |
Yup, this. Since around 2005 on July 4th (in non-pandemic times) the outflow from the Mall is managed as an evacuation drill. It is a partnership between DC, MD, VA and federal law enforcement. If you’ve ever been in or watched that traffic as hundreds of thousands try to leave at once, you know it’s not happening. We also have the examples of the earthquake and 9/11, both of which caused business districts to empty out. In those incidents people were commuting for 3-4 hours. In any event, there’s no need to evacuate DC. While the possibility for violence exists, there’s no reason why private citizens in their homes would become targets of mob violence. |
FTFY |
Yes, but it is worth noting DC has the capability to reset the timing of all traffic lights on the 25 main evacuation routes out of the city. In addition, they have prepared to reverse traffic on some roads to move more cars out of the city. |
| Rush hour traffic is the evacuation plan..seriously, there is no evac plan. |
