When do you think in-person 5 day a week school will return?

That is one of the numerous goals of the teachers unions. I recommend for you / others to join a few FB groups that are focused on reopening to get more details about what is going on. Twitter also has a lot of info.

I have a question about the 4 day week thing. Would it continue even after covid ( assuming such a time ever comes around)?

That is the union's plan.. like many years ago when Mondays were half day..So- yes, I completely think that it will yield to a 4 day school week as permanent. The unions in Virginia will be getting collective bargaining power this summer. This is the WORST thing that can happen to opening schools.

Why will get they collective bargaining power this summer?

I hope Northam doesn’t approve it until it’s normal for kids to be back in school 5 days a week.

I mean, FCPS is already the laughing stock amongst all my friends around the country whose kids are attending school in some fashion since September. It is really hard for me to imagine them milking this into the Fall.

Teachers & students 16+ choosing to be vaccinated will be vaccinated
Everyone will still need to wear masks
Social distancing when able, particularly if masks are off (lunch)
I think bussing students could resume

All kids need to be 5-days in-person to help stop the learning loss the FCPS school board has perpetuated these past 10 months and counting...

I say Fall 2021 as well.

I personally hope we do the four-day week permanently. But in-person.

He is completely at the mercy of unions.. he had not stated anything.. governors in the NE sent a joint statement in support of opening schools like a few weeks ago. Blackface northam was mute. And yes, it's northams last months before election (he can't run again) and his kids are in private school, what does he care? He will be well taken care of by approving collective bargaining for the teachers. Make no mistake.. the unions have pushed to get this on the agenda for 2021 and these union supported politicians will support it.

In what grade are your kids? I can guarantee you you will not think the same way when they are in MS or HS and are so behind their peers Nationwide.. that's at most 80% of what they should be taught..

On what grounds is the union demanding a 4 day week?

Where are people seeing this?

We live in a nova bubble.. and the school board is. funded by the unions.. so, no, not 5 days 2020... Maybe 2021 (really 2022) but it will be four days

In what alternate reality do these union types live where we come out of a DL pandemic with an ever-widening learning loss gap, have the Governor discuss a year-round school year to catch up AND they think a 4-day school week would be on the table?

::insert Kenan Thompson confused gif face here::

The majority of teachers including myself want 5 days of week of normal school.

Seems that a big question is the extent to which social distancing will continue to be necessary after some but not all of the positive population is vaccinated. I read a few articles where medical experts are suggesting that social distancing will still be necessary even after one receives the vaccine. I don’t think our country has the wherewithal to do that. There seems to be a feeling that one can mingle like it’s 2019 after getting the shot.

This. My 85 year old mil bought plain tickets to come visit in April. She will have received both doses of the vaccine by March, so will be fully vaccinated. But I was shocked— I was trying to tell her that she still needs to wear a mask if she is in our home (especially since it’s only a one week trip), and she flipped out on me. The vaccine only prevents severe disease. You can still get sick.

People saying they are hoping for a 4 day week must not have dual income household. The rest of the world is still working 5 days. Teachers need to as well.
