Bora Bora and Tahiti: better than the Caribbean? BTDT with kids?

I agree that Maui is the worst. Also if you have these intrepid kids why not take them to Australia? Such a fabulous country with so many different outdoor adventure activities from swimming with whale sharks to sand surfing in the Little Sahara.

As long as Rudy Me axa is not there, I would consider going.

I think Australia is an excellent alternative suggestion for OP.

This is an outdated perspective or people with different interests. We took 4 kids 10 and under to Maui in 2016 and it was fantastic. Plenty to do and see. Took my kids to Big Island at 10 and 12 in 2018, another great trip.

I could see young kids liking the beach, but I was a teenager and not into tanning. So was bored out of my mind.

I don’t understand all the hate for Maui. We have gone multiple times when our kids were at various ages. We’ve gone horseback riding, zip lining, hiking, biking, snorkeling, gone to the aquarium, plus all of the beach and pool activities. Even at the beach they’ve gone parasailing, rented jet skis, banana boats, etc.

Literally all things you can do in Myrtle Beach. Besides the road to Hana and the lava fields you could basically be at any beach in the US. Plus no mammals but freaking chickens everywhere and a few goats.

Yup and the road to Hana was closed while we were there...it wasn't my favorite. Honolulu was way more entertaining.

I loved Coco Palms (from the movie Blue Hawaii) on Kaui back before it was destroyed by a hurricane. That was one of the most incredible resorts I'd ever experienced. Hilton Wikaloa on the Big Island is awesome too. Trust me, PP, Maui just is vanilla compared to some of the other places in Hawaii.

For marine life, check out Sea of Cortez (Mexico). There’s an island there called something like isla Santa or Isla Espiritu that is supposed to be amazing.

NP. I have enjoyed Honolulu in the past and thought our stay at the Waikoloa was heavenly. But to us, the geographical beauty of Maui topped them all. I thought the road to Hana was incredible - it's a shame it was closed when you were there.

How have you taken your kids all over the world if you avoid long 20hr flights?

We’ve taken our kids in a few 20 hr flights. It’s really not a big deal.

Op- I too have always dreamed of going to Bora Bora. Do it!

I cannot even imagine being on a plane that long with kids. Even if we flew private just no.

I’ve been, but not with kids. On the other hand, I have taken my kids on longer flights (lots of Asia) and I flew to Australia a lot. The flights don’t concern me if managed well. But Bora Bora is set up for honeymooners, not kids. The water is amazing, and I’m sure they would love that. But I would definitely look into what else you would do with them there, as it may get boring. I think Moorea might be more kid friendly, but I haven’t been.

It’s really not that big of a deal. Wouldn’t want to do it with toddlers, but elementary age and up is fine. They play video game and watch movies. Took our first long haul flight when my youngest was 4.5 he did great.

i had gay sex while on my honeymoon in Bora Bora. Feel bad about it because I’m a man and am married to a woman. She’s never found out about my ‘side hobby’ before marriage or since. Oh, and in Bora Bora, the bottom was another married man. It’s out there if ya look.

to answer your question, my wife and I both agree Bora Bora is better than the Caribbean.
