I’ve had the misfortune of encountering an uncircumcised man who smell like old urine down here (but others without this issue), and I am wondering if the problem might be not being taught to retract the skin while peeing. If you’re peeing with the skin down and just dripping dry, won’t urine get under there? Serious question so I can help my son.

If he has a lingering smell of urine he’s likely getting it on his clothes and underwear. Urine will burn if it sits on the skin for very long. You can teach him to take toilet paper and dry off the tip when he’s finished just to make certain there’s no accidental dripping.

dh is circ and he gives the snake a couple shakes when he's done and he does blot it with tp

But yes to retracting. If it is not retractable it is still "vacuum sealed" closed

Wait so which is it? If circumcised, should they just shake and blot or do they also need to retract when peeing?

Sorry it was unclear. If it is retractable, retract it to pee. If it is partially retractable they can gently retract until there is resistance. If it is not, the foreskin is sealed to itself and urine will not get in there. They can be told to "shake the snake" to get the last few drips out and blot with TP. No to aggressive retraction

Blot with paper? So weird

Men do not have an external sphincter like women, there is a little pee left like a hose that has been turned off

This is a weird question, the dad can easily be circumcised. Used to be routine. My sons are intact and dad is circumcised

(So glad we had our DS circumcised in the hospital before taking him home.)

At my family doctor I saw a nurse walk by with the medieval torture device with velco straps to hold the baby down then shortly after heard a baby screaming in agony and I was so glad I didn't make a painful elective medical decision for my sons without their consent.

If you do not keep it clean, then the boy can get an UTI. Make sure to ask the pediatrician to show you what to do.

Got it. Thank you!

Sorry but I just don’t agree. Everyone needs to learn hygiene. The penis, like other body parts, isn’t magically hygienic. Women are taught how to appropriately wash their vulva. In fact, I got incorrect advice on this growing up and wish my mother had cared to learn and teach me. I grew up in a culture that circumcises but married an uncircumcised man and choose not to circumcise. I really appreciate this discussion.

Laugh. Glad you can crack a joke, but that is sooo untrue.

Watch the documentary “American Circumcision” on Netflix. It will tell you almost everything you could possibly want to know.

It’s free on Amazon Prime and some other streaming services. Great documentary.
