Taking care of an uncircumcised boy

Does anyone have any advice for not only taking care of a boy with an uncircumcised penis, but also teaching him how to take care of himself? What age can the extra skin start being peeled back? How is it supposed to be washed? And how are they supposed to like pee hygienically if that makes sense?

Where is the father to help?

Forgive my ignorance, but shouldn’t men and older boys retract the foreskin to urinate so that urine doesn’t get trapped under the foreskin? I’ve had the misfortune of encountering an uncircumcised man who smell like old urine down here (but others without this issue), and I am wondering if the problem might be not being taught to retract the skin while peeing. If you’re peeing with the skin down and just dripping dry, won’t urine get under there? Serious question so I can help my son.

If he has a lingering smell of urine he’s likely getting it on his clothes and underwear. Urine will burn if it sits on the skin for very long. You can teach him to take toilet paper and dry off the tip when he’s finished just to make certain there’s no accidental dripping.

I don't do anything special other than if there is a diaper blowout I give a proper wash with soap and water. My youngest has a smega pearl, Dr did not care at all. Neither DS 7 nor 2 are retractable yet.

More important is to get the boys to take a daily shower and change underwear and clothes daily.

Should the dr be pulling it back and checking it at annual physicals? Starting at what age? I've heard mixed things about that on here.

I had always read you were not supposed to then on a visit to our ped he did it. I asked why and he replied because he had seen adhesions. I still think he's was in the minority. We moved and don't see him anymore and my boys have their hands in their pants enough that they will figure it out.

My DD has labial adhesions, the family doctor gave her estrogen cream. A year later I see a youtube short of a pediatrician saying when they get the estrogen exposure at puberty it will fix the adhesions and topical estrogen can cause premature puberty. I have to wonder if many penis issues will be fixed at puberty with testosterone exposure.

dh is circ and he gives the snake a couple shakes when he's done and he does blot it with tp

But yes to retracting. If it is not retractable it is still "vacuum sealed" closed

No. An aggressive retraction is painful and it will cause a negative association with doctors. I would only recommend doing that if they are post pubertal and they have phimosis and a circumcision is being considered.

Wait so which is it? If circumcised, should they just shake and blot or do they also need to retract when peeing?

Good luck, y’all.

(So glad we had our DS circumcised in the hospital before taking him home.)

Why isn’t op asking the father?

Blot with paper? So weird

Not weird to not have pee drop on underwear every pee during the day.

There is nothing to do. This is the natural state that human boys are born in. If it required some complicated routine, then natural selection would have made humans evolve to be foreskin-less. You can stop worrying and freaking out.
