Also, I see it again and again on this board (and I experienced it too) ignore Oh Craps "no bribes or rewards" policy. We bribed with M&Ms, episodes of Esme and Roy, and now we let her pick out a song to sing while she sits on the potty. |
Op here. Yes, I have been doing rewards since the very beginning. |
Just your opinion. Most kids can be trained in a matter of days when they are developmental ready for it, even if that is after age 2. |
I would just wait. It should not take more than a week to potty train kids who are developmental ready to be trained. |
Agree with the PP who says to try bribes. M&Ms worked for us. But also, 24 months is pretty young. I did Oh Crap with my daughter around then, and it did work, but she started witholding her pee and got a string of UTIs and now has a ton of constipation issues. I think the UTIs were at least related to training her a little too soon. MYYV |
NP here and 3’s teacher: it is much easier to toilet train way before 3. Before 2 is best for an average child |
Possibly yes. That’s really difficult and confusing. Just keep doing what you’re doing and hope for the best! |
I'm sorry to hijack this thread but I'm the PP with the kid who doesn't like to be manhandled. We had a very successful day on Sunday, she only peed in the potty all day. Then Monday when DH was back at work was a disaster, followed by an even bigger disaster on Tuesday. I'm home 12 hours a day alone with her and a six month old and had a breakdown yesterday and we agreed to stop for a while till I can get more help after January.
Well today she refuses to wear a diaper, just full on meltdown when I try to put one on. The only way I will be able to get her in a diaper is if I hurt her. What do I do? Just keep going? I know she just be really confused and I feel terrible, I'm doing the best I can right now. |
sorry you are dealing with this. honestly, if she's resisting diapers now, I would just hike up the temperature in the house and let her go commando. Also, if you don't have it already, some kids find the big potty too scary, so i would recommend a small personal potty for her. How I do it with my DD (who also hates to be manhandled) is to pull her pants down, and she backs up and can sit down, no lifting needed. And if she's commando, she can do it all on her own, just needs to walk over and sit down. |
