Same here. Hogan has his flaws, but I agree overall with his leadership. He's the only Republican I've voted for, for any race, in a long time.

All the Republicans are tainted by Trump. You’ll find very few MD state-level Repubs who opposed Trump.

Perhaps a national GOP figure who was Never Trump and lives in MD? There’s a bunch in Bethesda/Chevy Chase.

Hogan seems to have taken a prudent, middle ground approach to the pandemic, doing a pretty good job of balancing public safety with the need to not completely tank the economy, which isn't just about "business" but also making sure people have jobs, incomes, etc.

He is a far cry from a lot of Republicans who were very dismissive of the pandemic and refused to take measures to try to stop the spread.

Would absolutely vote for Hogan or another Republican simply because it has brought checks and balances to this county. Gayles tried to single handedly close private school institutions as he has done the publics. The Republican Governor smacked down that abuse and overreach of power. I think voters in MoCo have begun to realize how much our Founding Fathers were correct in their judgment about checks and balances lying in the hands of the people.. These are important to remaining a democratic republic and free.

I agree. I'm a flaming liberal and did not vote for Hogan.

But I've been following police reform very closely. Everyone in MoCo politics is a liberal Democrat and they all say the same things. Contrast that to the General Assembly where the discussions about police reform present different sides, and it provides a much fuller picture of the issues. I may not agree with the Republicans on most things, but listening to those discussions really underscored how huge an echo chamber MoCo politics really is. It's really not good.

We are about to end up with a bunch of police reforms here that end up hurting communities of color in different ways. The intent is good. The results may not be. I think if there were different viewpoints presented, they'd be able to avoid some of these missteps.

If it were between an Elrich-like candidate and a Hogan-like candidate, I'd vote R without a second thought.

There are a lot of cases in-between that would be an tougher decision.

If it’s Boyd Rutherford vs Marc Elrich, ill vote for Rutherford.
If it’s Neil Parrott vs Peter Franchot, Angela Alsobrooks, or someone else like that, I’ll vote for the Democrat.
If it’s Rutherford vs Alsobrooks I’ll vote for Alsobrooks
If it’s Rutherford vs Franchot I might not vote, there’s not that much different
Neil Parrott (or some other Trumper), Robin Ficker vs Elrich I won’t vote.

No Trump Republicans or left-wing versions of Trump.

Happy to vote for an anti-trump moderate republican if those still exist. I consider myself a democrat, but I do think that California-style ultra-leftism is bound to implode on itself. I lean left of center, but I am worried that without a counter balancing force like a moderate governor, Maryland is at risk of being overtaken by pro-tax/anti-business fervor that is befalling California.

I would support another Republican Governor if he is better than Hogan. I thought checks and balances are important so I voted for Ehrlich and Hogan. But, this dude voted for Ronald Reagan and I knew he is a spineless suckup. Sorry, he took a gamble. He was not trying to become the gov of MD again. He wants to be the next POTUS and he thought that this would send a message to the Republicans. Sorry, sorry, sorry. He had to be strong and be like Mitt Romney who appeals to non-Trumpian republicans and democrats. Instead HOGan was trying to appeal to tRUMPians and his bacon was cooked. No democrat should vote for him. And every single Republican needs to know that Trump got 100% of his base and he lost the election in a massive manner. So appeal to the base and you will lose. Associate with Trump and you will lose. Be a spineless jerk and you will lose. Disrespect the voting and your vote and you will lose.

Depends on who the Dems put up and who the GOP put up.

All things being equal, I would vote for the Dem. If the Dems put up some Lunatic Left nominee it would depend on who the GOP put up. If it were the MD version of Phil Scott or something, then maybe. But I doubt MD GOP will put up anyone who would be acceptable to me (in the face of a left-wing lunatic) in the post-Trump era.

Hogan’s role was to be a moderating check on the otherwise all left politics of the state. He’s done that well without jumping off the right deep end.
