Does anyone else follow the Skalla sisters on Instagram?

Anyone can become a Mormon. Didn't you ever see the Twilight movies? Becoming a vampire with immortality is very romantic and appealing.

These sisters are actually really standard fare for affluent (or aspirational) Mormon mom Insta and blogger types.

Not really. They seem very rich because they live in a place with cheaper real estate and are in the building industry. The fancy vacations they take are all comped.

They don't hold a candle to NYC or even DC level rich people.

I don’t know how you could possibly know this. Rachel’s new house is probably like 3-4 million. Plus who knows how much cash she has stashed away. I would guess 10 million at least. That may not be rich to you but for most people, yes that is very rich esp considering she is not even 30.

Where does all their money come from? What does their dad do? Their husbands?

The dad owns a construction building firm. His company built the new mall across from Temple Square in SLC, I believe. Rachel's husband is also in building. These girls houses are mostly spec houses that Papa Skalla lets his daughters inhabit for a couple years. They've all had a lot of plastic surgery, especially the youngest one, who is rather unfortunate looking (sorry) by comparison to her older sisters. Rachel has always been the mom's favorite, and Emily has tried to catch up forever. Emily's husband comes from a very prestigious family who has high positions in the church. They were embarrassed that he married someone who had been engaged once or maybe twice before and meandered her way through college. At least one of their boys has some special needs that are getting harder and harder to hide on the blog. I don't think the older one even lives with Emily and her husband most of the time, the Skalla parents mostly take care of him.

I do think the girls have done well for themselves and they'll probably always be wealthy because of family connections and inheritances. It's much easier to portray an easy, carefree life that looks good on the blog when your kids are still young and cute, though.

How do you know all that?

Any person who claims to be a person of faith and also flaunts/endorses a majorly lavish lifestyle (as opposed to being comfortable), is a conman conwoman. Not sure how anyone can lie to themselves to absurdly that they're remotely godly.

And OP, stop comparing your insides to someone's outsides. Nothing is ever what it seems.

DP. It’s all basically public information if you do a little digging, SLC is not that big of an area, and there are a few “names” in the area. If you’re originally from a smaller city, you know who the “names” are in the area. The Skalla sisters grew up pretty comfortable, they married guys who work in lucrative fields, and Rach Parcell, at least, is a VERY well-known blogger and IGer who makes a ton of money off endorsements, sponsored posts, capsule clothing lines for different retailers ... she’s on a different level than her sisters and has been a big name influencer for years now.

I have family in their area. But, most of that information is relatively easy to find online. Reddit has huge threads on the family all the time.

I always wonder this too! And these people all have 4 or 5 or more kids too! Yet everything is perfect looking.

I had a ton of clutter when I had 2 kids. When the third came along we we’re drowning. It wasn’t working. We had to completely change our mindset and get rid of more than half our stuff. Everything has a place, anything we don’t actively use is donated. My life is much more organized with 4 kids than with 2.

I still think they are probably very hard working people. It takes time and effort to create that kind of (visual?) perfection not only about yourself but about your surroundings and other people in your life.

I think they're pretty lazy. Rachel seems to go days without a shower, even after exercising. Posts pictures of her absolutely disgusting dirty feet with toenails like fingernails and gross greasy hair her husband complains smells. Apart from the blog, which I think she does like one day of shoots with multiple outfits a week, she seems like a real slob. Read her reviews on Glassdoor for her company- she's a horrible boss and a do-nothing.

Emily only ever expresses joy when she is away from her husband and kids. She seems like a terrible mother and would have been way happier working in PR in NYC in her 20s instead of popping out these kids she hardly has time for in Utah. She doesn't put this on the blog, but posts stories where she shows nasty crap like her rugs where the kids and dogs just vomit onto them and she can't be assed to do anything more than grind the vomit into the rug with a paper towel and figure she can always get a new rug.

Both blogs and Instagram are littered with spelling and grammar errors, which is something I would expect to be corrected by someone else if you yourself don't know how to spell something as simple as the word bowl, ("bowels"). They have rooms that are staged by decorators, the most they do is tell their cleaning staff to make them look nice if any real life makes it into them.

Check out Jennifer Stagg/Stagg Design.

She and her husband, also a Mormon design, DIY, etc., and do quite an interesting home business consulting, selling, lots of things. I'm not into the whole minimalist mountain look, but I find her to be very interesting. Down to earth, cute little family, and it's clear that their house isn't a mansion. They aren't over the top and Stepford-y. Also, she has really stepped up and articulated her thoughts vis a vis this virus, and mildly about current politics as well- nothing in your face, but it's clear she's not a mouthpiece for the conservative segment of this culture.

Yes, I do find this Mormon mountain sub culture in all things "home" on IG fascinating.

And while Rachel does make a ton of money as an influencer, people have to keep in mind that so much of the stuff that makes her life seem really glam all comes free or heavily, heavily discounted. The gazillion dollar home decor, the 1k/night stays at the Montage; she's not spending what the rest of us would spend to do those things.

Have we ever seen any of the Skallas take a private plane anywhere? No, we watch them run down the airport hallway trying to catch their 5am commercial flights while still in their pjs. With as large of a family as they have, a private plane would even make sense $$ wise. We know they aren't avoiding it for ecological reasons.
