My. Not mine.

Yes to temp checks, yes to masks when not in the (chlorinated) water, yes to no spectators (and competitions once a month for most teams). And I do indeed see people involved in many other sports also questioning the arbitrary guidelines. I think the swimming parents get frustrated because there are two actual scientific studies that said swimming was a generally safe activity during covid.

My indoor sport has a similar study but I’m dealing instead of whining.

Your repeated whining about swimming is getting tedious.

Are we still pretending temp checks aren’t just for show?

It's really frustrating that masked, outdoor sports may be lumped the same with indoor gatherings people are having.

I think they’re a disincentive to parents who otherwise might send a “warm” kid to practice. I’ll take it.

Why. There’s been plenty of outbreaks connected to outdoor sports. So another whiner - wait! Only my kids’ sport is safe!!

Looks like sports can continue as long as guidelines and capacity limits are enforced.

I’m also a swim parent and our club is super careful and I would hate for my kids to lose this too. Looks like swim meets can proceed.

Our head coach (swim) sent out an email that groups/practice schedules will be modified over the weekend to conform to the new restrictions. If I had to guess I’d say my kid will lose a practice each week so that they can accommodate more groups with fewer swimmers in each. I’m ok with that if it keeps the kids in the pool.

Can you actually cite the confirmation of this?

Not sleepovers or indoor playdates teammates have had, but can you provide evidence and data on outbreaks due to outdoor sports, especially while masked?

This, in and of itself, only impacts social gatherings (weddings, parties) and bars/restaurants as last call @10pm and close at midnight. It also adds a misdemeanor for non compliance that would not prevail at VA Supreme Court. And masks for 5 y.o. and up vs 10.

Does not impact offices, schools, gyms.

There is no expiration date which is problematic.

All in all Northam is an idiot, but the bar curfew and social gathering limit may be of short term value in a case where hospitals getting full. Which is not the case currently.

Agree. I don’t see the impact on swimming since we don’t have spectators at meets or practices.

Link. -13. Recreational Sports
Indoor and outdoor recreational sports activities are permitted, provided participants and
organizers of recreational sports activities comply with the following requirements:

a. The total number of spectators cannot exceed the lesser of 30% of the occupancy load of the certificate of occupancy for the venue, if applicable, or 25 spectators per field. Races or marathons may have up to 250 participants, provided staggered starts separate runners into groups of 25 or less.

b. Conduct screening of coaches, officials, staff, and players for COVID-19 symptoms prior to admission to the venue/facility.

For more information on how to reduce the risk of COVID-19 exposure and spread associated with indoor and outdoor recreational sports activities, consult the Virginia
Department of Health’s “Considerations for Recreational Sports” webpage, which can be found here.

It does impact gyms though:

“C. Occupancy must be limited to the lesser of 75% of the lowest occupancy load on the certificate of occupancy or 25 persons“

Does this apply to indoor pools? It’s confusing because after this statement it says that pools may operate up to 75% capacity (no “or 25 people”).

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam’s latest coronavirus restrictions will not impact the Virginia High School League’s return to sports.

On Friday, Northam announced all public and private in-person gatherings must be limited to 25 individuals. The current cap is 250.

However, the 25-person limit applies to the number of spectators allowed to watch the sports and not the competitors.

“We want to make it very clear that the governor’s order for reduction in public and private gatherings to 25 individuals applies to 'spectators’ and not participants at those events,” VHSL Executive Director Billy Haun said in a release. “Nothing in the order prevents VHSL member schools from holding contests.”
