How do people in their 30s afford 3 kids?

Where do they get this money from? I make $300k. I struggled in my 30s. I received nothing from my parents. Do these people’s parents just give them money?

You’re ridiculous OP. If everyone waited until they made 300K to have kids nobody would have kids. I’m 36 and I have 3 kids. My first was born when I was 30. Our HHI is 150K, we own a house in Rockville and I stay home with the children, we’re happy and comfortable.

With $300K you can comfortable afford multiple kids. The issue is how you spend it.

Agree, 300k you can easily have 3 kids.

Children go to public school. We live ok and not beyond our means. Two vacations a year (one as a family and one just husband and I). Our vehicles we buy used and drive them until they die. Family babysits for us for free

No idea re the IVF.

Also OP it depends on your vision of what having kids means. Is there an ideal or are you willing to go with the flow? Do you have to live in Lyon Village or will Ashburn do? Do you need to buy out a store for infant clothes or are you willing to freecycle and wash frequently?

I'm not judging you. I wanted to have a kid when I could afford all the 'niceties' in life. Including where I chose to live and the aid of a night nanny. But many people want kids ASAP and they choose to forgo those in order to have that joy in their life immediately.

Its about choices.

You’re right. I definitely wanted the niceties. I love in a very upscale DC suburb. But I see people everywhere on their 30s with 3, 4, 5 kids and I am heartbroken about what did I do wrong? I always intended to have a 2-3 kid family (would have loved 4) but I never could make ends meet u til really recently and I’m an incredibly hard worker.

They spend less money than you do. Subtle but important difference.

I think you have a very warped idea of what it means to be able to afford to have kids, OP.

I am rereading this and maybe I just sound old and tired. I had a lot of trauma from being poor so I tried to wait h to my kid (kids I thought ) would not be poor and I am so wretchedly hurt that my fertility ended. But a least I had a baby.

Yes. We are pregnant with our fourth. Barring special needs and medical issues, kids basically cost whatever you have to spend.

My oldest i spent almost nothing on

My second is special needs and upwards of 20k a year on therapies alone. Is also the reason we need a ton of help

My third is super easy

We homeschool which isn't free, but nowhere near as expensive as private

We had our first 2 kids before we bought a home (it was in SF where a condo was >$1 million). Now I am 38 and we have 4 kids. We make less than $300K a year.

I was born into a wealthy family. My great-grandchildren won't have to work. We could afford 8 kids if we wanted.

They make more money than you. We know plenty of couples making over $200k right from their late twenties: lawyers, IT, consultants etc.

You prioritize, sacrifice and budget that’s how. But your question is incredibly small minded. The nation is teaming with young families that make a living wage and have 3 or more children. Not everyone needs to vacation in Europe and dive a Tesla.

We make $700k a year with two big jobs. I’m pregnant with our third (at 35) and it’s gonna be a stretch.
