New giant pictures at bottom of page

I am having discussions about this with the ad network. The issue is that we don't have a mobile website design. So those of you using phones are getting the same design as desktop users. The ads are sized for desktop users. They are not sure what the best strategy to fix this would be. So far, the ads are not performing anywhere close to what was promised in terms of revenue. So, unless things change, it will not be worth keeping them at all.

OP here. That makes sense. FWIW I have an Android phone and a single ad takes up more than the whole screen. In other words, I can't see the full ad in the visible screen -- the ad goes outside the frame. I don't know how to show you a picture though. So what the other person posted isn't what I see, I only see a single ad at a time.

I have clicked on the top ad accidentally a few times trying to click on Recent Topics because it is so large compared to the text for Recent Topics.

Sorry they aren't working out.

It really makes DCUM look like the website is promoting Trump. The look of the ads

Those ads are really different and are reminiscent of much more spammy websites.

I’m on this site way way too much and would be happy to support it by clicking on ads (though due to job loss, I’m not buying anything lately) but there hasn’t been anything I’d want to click on for months, at least.

I don’t say this as a bitch at you, because I acknowledge that you do in fact need to make a living, but as sincere wonder: the ads used to be regular-follow-me-around-the-internet ads of things I have looked at. Does the site use fewer cookies than it used to or something like that?

Both Safari and Firefox have implemented features to either block tracking by cookies or make it much less effective. You are probably using one of those browsers.

This is sort of an irony (one of which is true for me personally as well). Users don't like being tracked, but the result is that they get less relevant ads. I personally have some appreciation for ads that interest me, but the technology has not reached the point that it can read my mind. I don't like the tracking that, for instance, shows you a pair of shoes in every single ad after you look at that pair of shoes and decide you don't want it. But, if they show me a guitar that I want that has just gone on sale for 50% off, I'm all over it.

Is there any chance you could add an extra line or two of space under the Recent Topics and above the ad? The ad is so huge compared to the Recent Topic line that I've accidentally hit the ad multiple times. Usually I just close it (it goes to something called lockerdome) but today it took me to a Trump 2020 conspiracy website which froze my browser. It looked like a redirect, but because the browser froze I am not sure. I had to kill the entire browser and restart my phone to deal with it.

That makes sense.

And I agree - I love the ads that are helpful in the sense of remembering what I have looked at and like.

I just changed the ad configuration to not display the new ads on small devices. Let's see how that works out.

The ads at the bottom are scummy. Not DCUM worthy.

On an Android phone and I still see them, FWIW.

Really? Could you tell me which make and model phone? Is it a large one?

Yay! I’m on an iPhone and they are gone.

+1. No longer seeing them on my iPhone, and it is glorious.

Weird - my post with make and model disappeared. I'm on a Pixel 3. I am not sure it is a large one? A single ad takes up more than the visible screen.

Samsung Galaxy S9. I’m not seeing the ads on the phone. I see them on my iPad, but they are a much more reasonable size and placement. Thank you!
