This! Also can’t stand people that fish for compliments also. Annoying. |
LOL, exactly. They are incredibly insecure and generally miserable. |
| They talk about where they went to college. |

You opted out because you couldn’t.... wait for it.... compete. |
| I have a higher IQ than anyone else on DCUM. |

Types of competitive people:
The ones at competitive sporting events The ones that have a nicer car/better job/better spouse/better house/better clothes/better kids than you do The one uppers (the ones that take whatever you say and turn it into a chance to make themselves out to be superior to you). The ones that talk loud and talk over you The ones that buy the largest gifts/throw the largest parties/put up the largest decorations/invite the most people (pre-covid) |
| I have one child who seems likely that she will grow into this. She compares EVERYTHING, she must win ALL THE TIME, and she always HAS to be first! She is tiresome and hard to raise. I love her but in my mind I affectionately call her Baby Trump. |
What’s your number? I’m pretty high. |
Nobody cares how much pot you smoke Karen. Now go get some Denny's. |
These are the only ones that actually annoy me. One-uppers more than people who talk loud and talk over you (I have so many family members who do this that it doesn't offend me and I know how to deal with it, though I agree it is competitive and rude). But one-uppers are the WORST because they make it impossible to actually develop a friendship. If you share something about yourself, they feel the need to compete with it, and then it's hard to trust what they say in response because it's so obvious that it's just an effort to win the back and forth. Such a conversation killer. And no one has a better kid than I do, sorry

The way I deal with people like this - if I can't avoid them - is to think about what it must be like to be in the mind of someone who is so deeply insecure that they have to keep reminding everyone (and themselves) how special they are. That's a special kind of hell to live in - where you're never good enough for yourself. |
No, really. We don't care. You are caught in your own little race with yourself. So just enjoy it why don't you? We don't care. (from a different poster) |
