Types of competitive people: The ones at competitive sporting events The ones that have a nicer car/better job/better spouse/better house/better clothes/better kids than you do The one uppers (the ones that take whatever you say and turn it into a chance to make themselves out to be superior to you). The ones that talk loud and talk over you The ones that buy the largest gifts/throw the largest parties/put up the largest decorations/invite the most people (pre-covid)
These are the only ones that actually annoy me. One-uppers more than people who talk loud and talk over you (I have so many family members who do this that it doesn't offend me and I know how to deal with it, though I agree it is competitive and rude). But one-uppers are the WORST because they make it impossible to actually develop a friendship. If you share something about yourself, they feel the need to compete with it, and then it's hard to trust what they say in response because it's so obvious that it's just an effort to win the back and forth. Such a conversation killer. And no one has a better kid than I do, sorry :D
