It is pretty weird that when homeless people die the first thing you think of is coronavirus.

Maybe destroying the economy was a bad idea. There is only going to be more homelessness, poverty, despair.

I notice that Korea has not destroyed its economy. How did they manage to do that?

They reopened because the virus is not running rampant through their population due to incompetent leadership.

+1,000

Korea had 400 deaths in a population of 52 million! That’s the population equivalent of Texas and Florida together - when those two U.S. states have over 22,000 deaths between them.

Not only does Korea have less deaths and positives but it’s size is physically smaller than Florida with a population 2x as large.

Their leader however has a freaking PhD and he takes the science seriously.

Don’t bring up idiot rebuttals if you can’t be bothered to do a minimum of research.

Yeah, science!

And, it's difficult to involuntarily commit someone to receive the treatment. How about petitioning the Mayor/DC City Council on this one?

Korea's protocols would likely be intolerable in the US--mandatory confinement in a "Covid hotel" and mandatory cell phone app for tracking. We could do mandatory quarantines too (plenty of empty hotels and dorms available) but can you imagine the howling?

You mean snatching people off the street and detaining them without due process would be problem for some?

Korea's protocols aren't bad at all. Nice hotels, multiple daily deliveries of fresh food, cable, work stipend.

There is 0 to complain about.

Even cops, yup cops, give out info with resources to the unhomed.

Understand that many are unhomed by choice.

Wait- please unpack this for me. You are saying that when a homeless person gets a shopping cart it = knowledge of available resources? I’m confused.
Is there a test you need to take to get a shopping cart? Or are you saying that if you are savvy enough to get a cart that you are savvy enough to located good banks & rape free shelters.

I think it means if a person looks so obviously homeless (by having a cart with them) then homeless resource volunteers would have reached out to her multiple times in person providing resources.

It is all about values. We find the money to give HUGE tax breaks to the mega rich....in HOPES ("thoughts and prayers") that it will somehow find its way to solving our social problems. Down the road. IF they are so inclined

Anyone who is homeless should be offered resources; if declined, involuntary commitment. End of story.
