This bodes well with ACPS and return

Yeah, me too. But let's remember exactly what he specifically does for a living, in order to get this "burn money". He gets paid, by taxpayers, to provide a quality public education for all. And he's taking that money and going to private school. Because he's not able to do his job. That's why this is so maddening.

Bad signal.

If I was looking for a good Mexican restaurant and I saw the cooks eating Taco Bell. I'd go somewhere else.

That’s not a given. Kids switch schools all the time if there’s bullying or special needs or something. Presumably he wouldn’t just send one kid to private if this was a sign schools won’t ever go back.

But he also knows that f2f is better for younger kids and his ES kid is still doing DL in public. So there is probably more to this story and he probably feels that it's none of your business since it's probably personal to his kid. You know, sort of like you would if you had a kid that needed something different than what your other kid or friends' kids did.

My 5th grader is a Flint Hill 5 days a week. Myb9th grader is hybrid.

Of course the super any anyone else with means an opportunity would send their kids to private. The public option right now is dumpster fire. The leaders are suffering from absolute paralysis.

Congratulations on dropping into this forum to tell us you can afford to spend a total of $80,000 to send your 5th grader ($35K) and your 9th grader ($45K) to school.

At the same time, he should recognize that he's not the only one in ACPS who feels the same way about younger kids and DL, and he should fix ACPS to accommodate his kid and other kids like his kid.

I respect him more than I did before because he made a hard choice. He made the best decision he could for his child and he had the strength of character to do it even knowing that he would come under attack and be criticized.

We don't know the circumstances under which he made his choice and frankly I don't think we should know anything about his personal life. I say the same thing when some public figure comes out or gets a divorce or anything else that has to do with personal life.

His choice for his teen is a personal decision that is no one's business. No one criticized Barack Obama when he sent his children to Sidwell. I don't see the difference here.

My problem is not Dr. Hutchings’s choice here but his previous statements about parents considering Pods and parents who have concerns about ACPS. Hutchings acts like criticism of ACPS is not valid. Hopefully, he might have some humility going forward about ACPS’s issues that need addressing. I am not holding my breath on that though.

Why is that maddening? If ACPS doesn't have money to fix up buildings to make it safe for kids to return, or hire more teachers, or find an equitable way to get kids back in the buildings, what is he personally supposed to do? He's a superintendent, not a magician.

Obviously PP thinks his personal salary should be going to fixing all these things!

ACPS is building a $80m+ elementary school during a pandemic.

He criticized parents for using pods and tutors; he called them privileged. He hid the change in his child's status on his bio and twitter accounts until after he was asked about this issue. He deserves the criticism he is facing, especially when you couple it with host of other issues within ACPS central office.

Really??? You see no difference here? It would be more like if Obama had said America has the greatest school system in the world, but sent his kids to school abroad.

And actually, Obama was criticized. But yeah, completely different scenarios.

And the swing space at PH was his idea and he rammed it through despite very valid concerns from both school communities, especially from the PH community. His attitude was dismissive and arrogant.
