Need an alternative name for Daisy

Agree with everyone else that Orlando Bloom/Katy Perry are not on the level of celebrity where people will assume you're copycatting, and Daisy is not unusual enough for people to try to come up with an inspiration for you. (It's not like you're naming her Apple or Pilot Inspektor, is what I'm getting at.)

I love Daisy, was just this week pondering Margaret nn Daisy if I have another girl. Go for it.

Margaret nn Daisy! Don't worry about the alliteration. It's fine. Plus she might change her last name if she got married.

I like that it's short and sweet. Our older daughter has a longer, kind of musical name, but we mostly call her by her -y nn (think Molly or Ginny), and we really like how it goes with Daisy. We also like that our older daughter's name is cheerful and want something similar. We feel like a child born in a pandemic deserves a cheery name!

Some alternatives I'm considering:

Poppy
Lucy
Dahlia (nn Dolly)
Lettie (probably short for Violet but maybe on its own).

Thoughts? Other suggestions?

You could argue the other names, especially Poppy (Jenna Bush Hagger's daughter is named Poppy), is celebrity associated.

In fact, Poppy reminded me of Jenna Bush's kid.
Dolly reminds me of Dolly Parton and Dolly the Sheep (the first cloned animal)

Do you see how your logic is flawed by giving up on the name Daisy.

It’s truly sad you know jenna’s Kid name but not realize poppy was George Herbert walker bush’s nickname!

I would not give your second daughter a shorter, less important sounding name than first daughter. Use the same naming criteria. I have an older who has an important name. I got the nickname. It's just weird.

As an example:
If eldest is Delilah and you call her Lily, then for younger do: Beatrice and call her Bea or Bertie or....

I never understand why parents name differently. Like all J names, then last child gets W.

Are shorter names automatically "less important sounding"? I think it really depends on the name. If the older daughter has a kind of serious name with a cute nickname (like your Beatrice example), then your advice makes sense. But what if the older daughter is Calliope with a nickname Callie? Daisy would fit perfectly with the whimsical Calliope and/or Callie.

Daisy is lovely. I hope you stick with it.

That said, I also like a lot of the other names on this thread. Maisy, Maggie, Poppy, Rosie.

I hope you decide to stick with Daisy I do like Maisy, Rose/Rosie, Violet (don't like Lettie though), and Lucy too but Daisy is fabulous

Lucy is not a cheerful name. It’s Lucifer, as in the devil. Your others are fine. I would add Rose and call her Rosie. However, if you really love Daisy, just go with it. Doesn’t matter that some famous person named their kid that. They don’t own the name. Plus you’re not naming your kid after their‘s.

I'll take batshit crazy false assertions for $800, Alex.

Np You are assuming she didn't know! Poppy was a nn so I don't see how "sad' it could be. Now if it was his real name and she didn't mention it than you can be sad.

I love Daisy. I had heard a week or two ago that’s Katy Perry’s baby’s name but had already forgotten. I have an Iris so I’m partial to flower names. We also loved and considered Juniper but our last name sounded terrible with Juniper.

They aren’t THAT famous.

It’s not like Mason, which skyrocketed to popularity after Kourtney’s son...and it’s not unique like “apple” or something.

I follow celebrity news and I didn’t even know they had a baby.

I love the name Daisy! Please go with Daisy, OP. No one is ever going to make the association with a celebrity kid unless it’s a weird name like Apple.

Anonymous wrote:OP here. Thanks everyone! This is really making me feel better about Daisy. My concern was less that people would think we copied a celebrity and more that the celebrity usage would turn it into a name trend. Something similar happened with our older daughter and while I got over it (her name suits her perfectly), it made me doubt myself with this one. But I do love it! Nothing else I've found makes me smile in quite the same way.

Is your older daughter’s name Penelope?

I like Daisy. Poppy is cute in England but here it tends to mean grand dad. I also like Holly.
