So...is there some sort of black market for eggs and milk?

For everything but fresh produce, go to Target!

Try Mom's Organic off Nicholson in Rockville for a full dairy section and decent produce (at least as of yesterday).

I'm guessing the further out toward the suburbs you drive, the better the supply of food. I just got back from Harris Teeter on 50 near Dulles @ 28, and was shocked at how fully stocked they were on EVERYTHING. I'd gone in expecting to be foraging (my husband went on Saturday and nothing was left in the milk/eggs/meat/fruit at Giant).

I thought I was buying the last package of ground beef, but as I went by on my way out to grab some bratwurst, I saw that every grade of ground beef (90/10, 85/15, 80/20, etc) had been fully restocked in the 30 mins I'd been shopping.

Every fruit and veggie was fully stocked. Only the frozen pizzas on sale and frozen french fries were ransacked. Plenty of everything else, even flashlights!

Bethesda Giant at Westbard has been out of milk since 8:30 today and still out
They did have 'Silk' though.
Whole Foods traffic around the corner on River Road is completely nuts...

Oakton Giant was completely out of milk (except soy milk) this morning around 9:30. They were restocking everything else, though.

Whole Foods in Clarendon was stocked to the MAX this morning. I was in there around 9AM...it just started to get crowded when I was leaving so I don't know what is left by now.

You are correct. That's what we had for breakfast on Saturday am!

DH found the Yes! organic market near our house (in Brookland) to be well-stocked but was beat to the chase for eggs by a couple who picked up THREE CARTONS. True story: the husband had 2 cartons in his hands and the wife called out to him "hurry, get the last one!"

So yeah, I do think there might be a black market. I was so pissed off --- I had most of the recipe for banana bread all mixed up and no eggs.

Chevy Chase Supermarket on Connecticut Avenue and Manor Road has eggs, bread and bananas - and shovels!

Harris Teeter in Adams Morgan was very well stocked, including produce/dairy/eggs, this morning, just a little slow in the checkout lines. Yesterday, the lady at Yes! Market (also in Adams Morgan) told us she was expecting a delivery today.

Just got back from the giant on Democracy in Bethesda and while a mad house was well stocked. Little bit low on eggs but plenty of bread and milk. Produce was starting to thin: lots of bananas, strawberries, grapes, peppers but there were huge blank spots.
