The Safeway in Rosslyn is like a third world country. I think there was one wilted bruised leaf of bok choy left in the entire produce section. I took a picture to explain to my husband why he was getting silk tofu "milk" (it was either that or just buy him heavy cream.) |
Really? I was there around 4 pm and there were fully stocked on dairy, and not bad on bread I think. Produce was hit or miss, but plenty of apples. |
It's because of all those funny Doritos commercials during the Super Bowl! |
I'm the pregnant woman who was trying to bake a chocolate cake from scratch during super bowl.
I still couldn't get eggs today =[ I hate such ridiculous cravings!!!! |
Where? I demand to know where? I'm in Arlington. Maybe I just hit the stores at the wrong time. No milk, no eggs. No veggies. |
I'm the OP. This made me laugh so hard I almost choked. |
Shopper's Food WH in 7 Corners. Plenty of milk and eggs this afternoon. Lots of everything except veggies. |
I'm the pp you quoted. I went to that Giant around 9pm and it was ransacked. Looks like you had gotten there in time. Anyone go to the Bethesda Whole Foods on River Rd last night or the Westbard Giant? I'm thinking about trying those out this morning to see if I can get what they didn't have at the other Giant. I would pay $20 for a thing of chicken breast, or even a whole chicken at this point, or some ground beef. I would have even sprung for filets or lamb chops if they had any at the Giant on Arlington last night. Nothing but chicken wings and some random cuts of pork. |
the obvious explanation for the shortages is that during these types of emergencies, people have to be able to make french toast. |
I think these things are in short supply because they typically get restocked every day, unlike less perishable items like cans of soup which might get delivered once a week. So even a one day interruption to the delivery schedule due to impassable roads will have an immediate impact. Also, everyone buys milk and eggs, and if they know a storm is coming, it's pretty easy to say, "I'll just get two" instead of my usual one. |
I thought of this thread when my DH came home from a quick trip to the store yesterday with a half gallon of organic milk because they were out of regular. If that's what you're looking for, check stores you would never dream of setting foot in (in this case, Bottom Dollar in Gaithersburg). It's the low-end stores that have availability of that sort of item. |
We go through a lot of milk when it snows, cocoa after sledding baby!
Good luck to everyone trying to get restocked this am. |
Target! |
I think the earlier poster was talking about the Giant on Arlington Rd in Bethesda. Anyway, the Giant on Old Georgetown Rd did have milk, bananas, and grapes last night. But I have to say it was hopping for a 5pm on Monday night. I saw people re-stocking some items i.e. as the grapes were being put out we were like SURE. The fruit section in general looked like locusts had swooped down. Normally, my DH is not an alarmist "the sky is falling" shopper when they say snow. HOWEVER, the way the focasts increase on a dime, you start off your morning thinking 4-6 inches and by the day the snow arrives they are calling for up to 4 feet. Here we thought the Arlington,VA folks were a bit much with the be prepared to shelter in place for 3-5 days. Now it looks like they called it right. Especially if you added "without power" to the end of that sentence for some people in the area. |
Great I'm headed to the store this morning!! |
