To my Jewish neighbors

I'm guessing you don't hang out around observant Jews! The type with large families!

Personally, I'm an orthodox Jew and I'm a bit more extreme on this issue than most. I am a single issue voter and that issue is abortion. Most of my friends do take it into consideration.

I believe that a country that doesn't value the life of its most innocent and powerless will eventually lose a sense of the value of every life. USA is the kindest, best government in history and I pray for its success and continued power every day.

I don't read the news (though i do read forums like DCUM so it filters down). Most people at my level of observance don't use smart phones or internet at all, nor work with the outside world, so you're unlikely to encounter us.

I don’t agree with many of RBG’s positions but I respect her years of service on the bench. If Scalia loved her, we should all see her this way.

NO way you are a Jewish mother.

See a Jewish mother understands for her daughters what gifts RBG gave all women. Do you own a charge card? Are you for getting rid of the ACA and preexisting conditions? And RBG worked with both sides of the lane which is what a Jewish mother would teach her children.

I can say this as I am a "Jewish Mother" and I am annoyed at any Jew who thinks going down the Trumper path is good for Jews. Today 495 between MD & VA, Alt right driving trucks with lovely hate against Jews.

The anti semitism momentum is because of him and you are supporting that garbage.

I most certainly AM a Jewish mother and I proudly support President Trump. Your rantings are lunacy and you’re not worth the engagement. Chag Sameach to you and yours. May the year bring you good health, peace and sanity.

Honestly, why?

I"m no fan of the orange man, but I've started to realize the reason we are having such difficulty is that we are taking everything so PERSONALLY. People have their opinions, we need to learn to accept them and that they are different. When we dehumanize our fellow citizens because of their beliefs, its dangerous for everyone. And this goes around for all people, no exceptions.

Because your “belief” and “difference of opinion” involves my family not having the same rights as your family has. Don’t you dare tell me not to take that personally. It may be a bloodless political opinion to you, but to me it is the safety and security of my family.

Chill out religious freaks
OP asked about a superstition around a date of death, not election coverage

But yes, my grandfather a holocaust survivor wasn't religious, but he was born and died on Shabbat, and yes there is a tradition that the righteous merit to die on Shabbat. But like everything in this world, it's not that clear cut, just a tradition.

Even ultra-orthodox rabbis believe that halacha requires a Jewish woman to terminate her pregnancy if there is any reasonable concern for her life, even, if the concern is psychological in nature. There was a lot of discussion around this point in NY with the RHA. It's kind of depressing that you get your news from DCUM and not NYT, but you do you.

The number of abortions decreased substantially during the past two Democratic administrations and decreased very slightly under the last two Republican administrations. I would think if past is an indication of the future, people who are against abortion And are one issue voters, they would vote Democratic.

It's not moot. If you die soon before Rosh Hashanah you were destined to die during the year but got close to as much time as possible in that year.

But it can make the death harder on families because you can't sit shiva, since shiva automatically ends on Rosh Hashanah.

Sounds like she died at the worst possible time then!

I just saw a detective show last night with a nun whose dirty little secret was that she liked religious erotica.

I suppose DCurban mom is your equivalent. The news doesn't filter down very well.

I thought rosh hashanah was the Jewish new year, and the time when God decides who is inscribed in the book of life for the coming year -- i.e., who gets to live another year. People who die right at the end of the year are the people who God wanted to wait as long as possible -- until the very end of the year -- to call home. That's what I heard on the news.

Trump sucks. I'm against abortion and can't support a piece of shit like Donald Trump.

That's Yom Kippur -- ten days later.
