I agree. The logic seems to be that if we cannot screen accurately all the time, we either stop playing or screen none of the time. I don’t really understand that at all. |
I don't think you're correct here. Asympmtomatic carriers may not feel ill, but people with fevers feel ill because the fever itself is responsible for symtpoms such as muscle aches, headache, chills, lightheadeness etc. In any event I agree with the people who point out that it's easy to take a kid's temperature and it can't do any harnm to take it, and I'm certainly not suggesting that people shouldn't take temperatures - I'm just pointing out that kids with temperatures are going to be feeling ill and very unlikely to attend practise anyway - so this is amongst the least of my worries. |

Here is what I don’t understand.
The person who was positive—was he tested before the game and went ahead and played before the results came back? Wouldn’t that fail the clubs health check protocol that families are supposed to be following? Or maybe I have the wrong timeline. |
Someone upthread said he was took a rapid test after the game. And I heard the rapid test was because he was about to travel. |
Thanks. |
No, please read the original postings. The player tested positive the day after the scrimmage with a Covid-19 rapid test. The parents notified the club the same day and the club notified both teams the same day, and quarantined both teams from all training, practice, scrimmages and games. |
|
The parents and the club have both done the right thing.
Also, it is very encouraging that no other players from either team have experienced symptoms or tested positive. This is good news for transmission rates at an outdoor soccer event. |
And somewhere around 40% of transmission is presymptomatic. Temperature-taking is pandemic theatre and only works to convince unintelligent people that the risks they are taking are "safe." |
Yes, this "apply the exception" fallacy does come up over and over again. Oh wait, here's a another one....
Yikes. Let's put this in terms that you might better understand. You're hanging out at the 7-11 buying your usual hot dog and beer and you know your odds on a big lottery draw that night are a 60% chance of winning if you just buy one ticket. Do you buy the ticket or do you walk away because you don't like the odds? |
Pandemic theater really is my favorite... it makes people feel good, but is of marginal use. I do think the real value in reporting or taking temperature is more in the reminder to assess each day how your child feels - and for that there is value to make people pause and think. |
| OMG ASA has so many too cool for school parents |
Which means 60% of transmission *majority* is while the person is symptomatic- since 80% of positives have a fever-hence temperature taking..."thou intelligent one." |
Lol! |
Lmao! They don't sell beer but that scenario is hilarious. |
The mental gymnastics some people do just to avoid taking their kids temperature. A simple task that takes <1 minute. I bet you sent your sick kids to school pre-pandemic. And don’t wear masks. So much disrespect for others. JFC. |
