Thanks (from an Arlington parent) |
Yes thanks (another Arlington parent). We are going along with the scrimmages for now but if the reporting is not reliable we will have to yank them out stat. This will only work on trust, transparency and testing. |
Why would he be tested the day after a scrimmage? Did he have symptoms? Seems very strange to not do the test before. |
| Arlington parent here - i have been very happy with how they have managed practices. A few outliers in terms of coaches and kids and parents - but mostly all very good (the three young DA boys who showed up for a srimmage last weekend and all slapped hands upon arrivel and then spread out 6 feet really did make me want to scratch my head though....) I think a lot is being set by tone - our coach is very good about keepng the boys spreadout when he is talking to them - which sets a good tone and example. |
I wish the coach would take temperatures before practice/games and not rely on the players to self police. I really doubt every player is checking their own temperature before practice/scrimmage/games. |
Is it because some might get to practice early to warm up and become too hot to participate? Really just curious. |
Fever is not always a symptom. Taking temperatures is pointless. |
The players are to arrive right before practice. The players are to social distance and await the coach who directs them on to the filed. There is no warming up. |
80% of people with coronavirus have a fever. So no it is not pointless but your post shows people like you will not comply with the simplest of instructions. I bet the kid or his parents did not test before the scrimmage/games. Now 2 teams are out for 2 weeks. Thanks! You sound like a great person. |
All the asymptomatic cases don't have a fever though.... |
What maybe 20%?
|
This doesn't worry me too much. People with fevers feel pretty ill. I can see this being useful at airports for exampe where people may attempt journeys in this condition - but I can't imagine kids with fevers going to practise - they'd be feeling too sick to want to go. When I was growing up my mum had a thermometer to check that I was really ill when I wanted to skip school. I recall plenty of times when I was told that I didn't have a fever so I would be going to school. I don't recall any times where my mum needed to take my temperature to stop me going to school because I was sick but still wanted to go. |
No a lot of people with a fever from coronavirus do not feel sick. When the virus gets into the chest they become very sick. Most kids go to practice feeling a little off and they will play game sick. I have seen it. So it seems not many of the Arlington parents are checking their kids for fever before practice or games. Good to know. What other polices and rules do you feel you know better about? |
| taking temperature is probably the easiest and least intrusive thing to do but there’re still people oppose it. For what reason, really? It takes one second per kid. One second. |
While results of catching infected are mixed from Asia where fever checks have been ongoing for over a decade, it has been shown that taking temperatures at locations like airports and schools has improved people’s observation of guidelines and self-reporting. Parents who fear their kid getting caught at the fever checks at school are less likely to try and send their kid to school with a slight fever and are more diligent at self reporting. I suspect Arlington fears some liability issues. |
