No virtual learning for PK3/PK4

I mean it takes consistency and actual work. Some of my students did that too but after 2-3 weeks they stopped and these are children with disabilities. I get it's stressful but can't really relate to parents who say it will NEVER work. I mean I had students with all kinds of issues and parents with hectic jobs, what's your excuse? And a little dance through a webcam isn't very engaging, PS/PK teacher will have to think way outside of the box.

But if you won't or can't put in the effort I hope you're doing a pod or something else.

Wow. Are you a teacher? Yikes. Thanks for the contempt.

I shouldn't let that person's post get to me, but it really made me tear up. I'm glad that I know from my other mom friends that their experiences were nearly identical to mine. Live instruction is nothing like you tube. Sorry, you're not going to be as entertaining to my kid as Super Wings. That's not a reflection on you or me. It just is.

No virtual learning will do this? No, because the parents would need to be home or be paying someone to be home with the kid anyway. Not having in person could certainly affect the job situation, but not having virtual learning doesn’t impact jobs. There’s really not much of value you can do virtually with a 3 year old and it has to be fully supervised by an adult at home.

+1

Speak for yourself. My 3-year-old got a lot out of the virtual learning her private preschool offered when the pandemic first hit. Give us the options, you choose what works for your family.

NP here. I've no idea to what post you are replying, but it wasn't the one to which you hit "reply". The PPP poster was simply making the (excellent) point that whether or not DCPS does DL for 3 and 4 year olds doesn't drive joblessness. This isn't debatable. Whether or not your kid participates in a Zoom call for 1 2 or 4 hours a day, you cannot leave a 3 or 4 year old unsupervised for that (or any) period of time. So one way or the other childcare needs to be solved for.

There are legitimate arguments for and against DL vs. in-person. Nothing is perfect and no one can see the future (Florida was taking victory laps a few months ago!). But what I think PPP was saying is that arguments for or against should be made on an intellectually honest basis, not with nonsense logic.

No one making decisions for the local school systems cares about low income working families, that is abundantly clear.

A teacher who is trying to get out of in-person instruction while saving her job, would be my guess.

Is this how you plan on talking to the parents of your students who come to you asking for help? Oh, but youre the infamous special ed teacher on this site who has been trolling parents since March. I remember you. Go away and get a new job. You're not fit to teach.

It's not contempt, I'm sorry you cannot gather my tone through text. And it does actually take a lot of consistency and work! A lot of which parents either won't or can't do, that's reality.
Just saying I'm tired of the excuse of blaming your child and their age. Of course DL works better for a HS student, however it doesn't mean they can't do 2-3 fifteen minute live lessons everyday.

I'm wondering what your excuses are when I'm telling you children who are not typically developing can learn to engage through DL. I'm am truly sorry you stuggled, I'm not trying to shame you. But are you saying you prefer ONLY packets? If that's the case ok, just different views.

*Also to the reply saying I'm trying to get out of my job, eat my shorts. If I didn't want to teach I could easily just be a SAHM and not have a live in nanny. I feel blessed I have someone to teach my child while I telework but I could easily just teach her the material myself.

And lmao DCPS decided no live instruction, NOT me. If you believe your children just deserve some dang packets OK! Sweet, paid for FREE for a whole year because parents are too stubborn to accept we will likely not have in person.

You're probably that loser parent whose threads bashing teacher kept being deleted.

I prefer teaching in person! I'm not sure you understand how long it takes to make a cartoon or come up with dang puppet skits!

I'm sorry but I don't think my 3 year old will get much out of some kind of song and dance on zoom once a day, that's just a fact. You may do it well, but it's next to useless. We will tune in but what's the expectation? What exactly is he supposed to learn? If it's the ABCs he can probably do that better on an app.

I'm only glad they're doing DL for my kid because he gets to know his teacher's face, who will also be his teacher if we ever set foot in school for the next 3 years. That's about it. Otherwise we're good.

Is this how you plan on talking to your teachers? Go away and get a new school district, your're not fit to be a DCPS parent.

Infamous? I've been on this site since June, must be a lot of sped teachers here laughing at whiny gen ed parents. "Oh my special snowflake child, why oh why it's so hard!!"

Yet children with multiple disabilities and low income parents are here with little complaint busting their bums for their children to learn, working with teachers and staff. Sped parents are the best, yes they can ask for way too much but at least they try and don't sit here and whine.

If we do have in person I hope it's only for children with an IEP. Seriously they deserve it way more. Just go to your pod and be done with it. No use complaining about teachers who you think are lazy, hate you, and don't want to work.

Ah yea, I said a song and dance. Whelp if that's what you think goes on in a PS/PK lesson then I'd definitely stick to packets + pods only! Might as well cancel PS/Pk altogether, even when we start meeting in person. We'll save a ton of money!

Any info on Apple Tree? We were offered a spot on the Oklahoma Avenue and now I regret turning it down, but are on the wait list for Lincoln Park. I was holding out for our inbound (#2 on the list), but if there is no DL, then I'd rather do something else where they may have it.

I am a DCPS Art teacher and I taught PK4 Art remotely during shutdown. My PK students and families were the most engaged and responsive. I was so thrilled with their participation and dedication; it got me up in the morning and put a smile on my face. I really appreciated the parental support during such difficult times. I hope i can continue in the fall if we’re all DL.

If dcps starts the year DL only and cannot implement hybrid I think they said that they may be able to offer dl to prek3/4.

I think Appletree might go ahead with plans for hybrid. They haven't said for sure.
