Not really. His motion to dismiss was denied.

Pretty soon his attorney will be able to file a motion to dismiss based on the right to a speedy trial. They keep putting it off due to covid and that excuse won’t work for much longer.

The crime he is charged with is a misdemeanor and at worst a fine of $500. He needs to clear it from his record so he can be employable.

He has engaged a very high-level criminal defense attorney, Peter Greenspun.

I realize that people have really strong feelings about this incident/case - rightly so. But it seems Bloom has maintained his innocence so I'm sure FCPS doesn't have a choice to keep him on their payroll unless their independent investigation finds him at fault. And they probably aren't going to make that finding while there is a criminal case. If he's acquitted/cleared of the criminal charges then they are going to have to have a separate reason to dismiss him.

It would be terrible to inherit him as a principal in this district. His name is tarred.

I doubt he'll go back to a school setting in FCPS. Too much baggage.

A thread in the political forum made me wonder whatever happened to Scott Bloom. Have any of the para’s cases been completed? Did the special education teacher ever explain how it all happened?

The last I saw was that the aides, Cylmeera Gustav and Cecilia Benevides had both been charged with felony and misdemeanor counts of cruelty to children. It seems like their cases should be heard first as the details would have bearing on how culpable Scott Bloom is. But my google skills are failing to find any updates to those cases.

Maybe someone with better legal search skills can chime in.

Has anyone seen any updates to the cases out of Freedom Hill?

He should never be employable in a school setting. I don't understand how another district will ever hire him. At least I hope they don't. Luckily for Haycock there is a new principal there.

Even if he remains employable at FCPS his life will be made a living hell. They will force him out. Once your labeled you are finished. I’ve seen it happened. The ironic thing is principals were the biggest perpetrators of bullying. Maybe it’s changed since I have moved on , but I don’t really see him staying on regardless.

I really don't think someone like this will be allowed to remain at FCPS. Michelle Eugene was forced out of Shrevewood just for being a bad principal and is no longer with FCPS.

If they are found guilty, its awful - what these two are alleged to have done.

No pupil deserves that sort of treatment.

Gustav was not an aid at the time of the incidents. She was the teacher of record in the classroom. She was on a provisional special education contract. The contract allows individuals to serve as special education teachers while they complete their certification requirements. FCPS did not make this clear in their statements because I'm sure they don't want anyone to know how many provisional contract teachers are filling special education positions.

Has there been any movement on any of these cases?

I wonder how many provisionally licensed special education teachers are running classrooms now in FCPS?

I'm sure quite a few. There's a massive shortage in special Ed.
