Supermarket Sweep

What about the strange way the contestants clap for every right answer and cart total?! It cracks me up.

Pick up the mystery item (screens), and the blow up prop on the way.

Dont forget the giant cans of coffee!

Yes! Don’t grind coffee, just get 5 of those giant cans!

I always wondered if they had some reason to promote certain brands. Yuban coffee was always mentioned, and they always seemed to grab Huggies diapers, although there were other brands. I know there was a penalty if you dropped an item and didn't pick it up.

For sure they had paid advertisement.

I used to have dreams of being on the show when I was little. I wanted to get a bonus item!

It makes me happy that other people have spent time and thought on developing their Supermarket Sweep strategies.

My assessment is that it’s all about winning extra time pre-shopping blitz. It’s rare that a team loses with a time advantage.

Gotta win that mini-sweep, the very first question. 30 seconds (!!) of extra sweep time, plus $50 or $100. You've won before it even starts.

Re, strategies:

I know there's a 5 item limit. But can't you get as many similar items from the same section? Like how people got for some of the OTC meds...why wouldn't I do 5 Tylenol, 5 Advil, 5 benedryl etc. Don't waste time running around or switching carts. After getting the Giant ham and cheese wheels, you need a new cart. Why not just stick with one pricier section and load the cart the whole time?

Leslie Jones for SNL was supposed to host a new version of Supermarket Sweep this year but I guess due to Covid it's been put on hold.

Years ago I read an interview with a former contestant. He said when the show first aired the huge meats and cheeses were real but became really gross over time so they switched to plastic versions.

He also said he didn't think the sweatshirts were ever washed between contestants!

but it's $100! You can do that AND get meats. The bad thing is that there are no high dollar items near the coffee, and you have to keep a finger on the machine. I nest you can do is flick potato chip bags into your cart at the same time.

You can’t leave the grinder. Its not worth it for the time it takes. You can easily get $100 worth of stuff in far less time.
It would be interesting to see how many of the winners were coffee grinders...

I just watched an episode on Netflix where the winner ground coffee. I was freaking out about the time, but it worked! Agree about the extra time being key.

I have been debating this and I think there must be a rule like you can only get one item within a particular category. Otherwise what you said would be the obvious way to win.
