Have you emailed AEI yet?

No, what is AEI and why should I email it/them?

Not being snippy, but how is your child in magnet and you don’t know what AEI is?

You clearly are being snippy and my kid is a rising sixth grader and I’ve clearly had no need to date to know what it is. I’m still not clear why I should email them. Are they asking for feedback? Would this be different to filling out the feedback form on the draft plan?

NP, i have one kid that just finished a magnet and another starting a different one next year and I’ve never heard of AEI or would have any idea of why to contact them. There’s two many acronyms in MCPS!

NP, I have no idea either, one kid in her 3rd magnet program in HS And another one starting MS magnet next year

I hope they save the budget and can them all.

Sorry that you're not over your kid not getting in.

I had 2 in HGC and 1 in Magnet. I agree. Not worth the money or resources right now. Not to mention safety. Homeschools only

Sit down Karen. Magnets are priority #3,648

Where did you go?

Big 3 over Eastern and Takoma (and ultimately Takoma). Would have loved DC to stay in MCPS but the logistics of either were far too challenging for us. Both seem to be amazing programs. Friends with kids there really like them. If either had been within a reasonable commute, may have been different. But the pandemic sealed the decision.

Wait, didn't you have to apply to big 3 before you even knew whether or not your child was accepted to Eastern/Takoma? Something doesn't add up here, sorry.

New poster. Some of us aren’t up on every detail. I also wasn’t aware what AEI was.

My kid was in CES and we're heading to a magnet and I only know what AEI is because we (school parent cohort) had a meeting with them (that we called to address a concern) in 4th. And I read DCUM!

Good for you, but "this is why we left" isn't exactly an option that you should brag about like it's the choice parents who care about their kids should make...when the "this" costs $45K/year. Geez.

Really? We sacrificed a lot to have that choice, and I'm not apologizing for that.

NP.

"Sacrificed a lot" means that you had extra you could trim to get to $45K per year, for at least the next three years. Which, good for you. But coming on a public school board and bragging about it is really poor form. It's tacky, and it's gratuitous, and totally unnecessary.

I hope your child has a wonderful experience at "Big 3" but maybe stick to the private school board from here on out.

/Another parent of a child who got into both magnets, but who would need to "sacrifice" both rent and food budgets to pay for private

You have no idea of our situation, but thanks for making all kinds of incorrect assumptions.
