Nobody asked what the average family income was at Potomac, or your own, but thanks for the helpful brag post. 🙄

Also, there are plenty of Uber rich families in NW DC, Bethesda, and Alexandria. Most of them just fly under the radar. I think having a 7 figure income and feeing average is not unusual at any area private (at least, the 40K ones).

But there’s something about mclean and Potomac.... people there just NEED to advertise their wealth. I don’t know if it’s a new money thing or what, but it’s a real turn off for many (myself included).

A Potomac parent (in three divisions) weighing in to say that we absolutely do not feel what some experienced about the flaunting of money. In fact, we feel the opposite and assume it is because it is "old money." Yes, it's there. But we have found the school to be pretty down to earth and very kind. And we do not have a seven figure HHI - not by any stretch.

Langley parent here with middle schoolers. I realize you were asking about younger grades but think once you switch to private, you’ll want to stay. We love Langley—middle school is so great for building confidence, academic skills and is very age-appropriate without any high schoolers there. The teachers are truly amazing and they have such a great balance of academics with social development. Distance learning has been good and should get even better with more prep time before the fall.

The new school head (coming starting for the 21-22 school year) is coming from Norwood and has great K-8 experience so I anticipate a very smooth transition.

Langley definitely has a contingent of Uber rich show offs. Lots of normal families but those few rich ones are very loud I found that it’s less prominent at our bigger school.

Langley parents would crawl on broken glass if their kid could somehow be admitted to Potomac.

How do people come up with such nonsense? My girls attended Langley when they were younger and are now at an all-girl school. Never even considered Potomac.

Coming from a Norwood family, Langley will be in really great hands with the new head.

That's wonderful! Can you share which role the new Langley Head had at Norwood? Thanks!

She is Norwood’s middle school principal and assistant head of school, the position she has had for the past 8 or 9 years. Emphasis on present tense. She remains at Norwood and will start at Langley in the summer of 2021, after the upcoming school year is over. Norwood and Langley have a lot in common and this should be a very smooth transition, thanks in large part to Elinor’s wanting to stay at Langley through 2021 and NCS’s willingness to allow that.

Nearly all the Langley parents fit the stereotype. It is 100% accurate.

We have one kid at Langley and one in Potomac.

Obviously for HS, Potomac is the only choice. For lower grades both are awesome.

But at Langley they do need to apply at 8th grade which creates a bit of stress.
Facilities at Potomac are far superior, but community and nurturing environment at the lower grades is better at Langley.

Just our opinion and we have been at both schools for a bit now. Our boys are very different and are happy our younger is in Langley for now.
When he gets to 8th, he will apply to Potomac even though his brother would have graduated already.
We have a third boy who is in PS and will have them start at Langley.

Also the posters who are posting this about Langley do not represent the majority of Potomac families. They should be ashamed of themselves for being so childish. I hope none of you are people we socialize at the school. You make our community look elitist and petty.

But your community is almost by definition elitist.

A few bad apples does not reflect on a majority of the families there.

Seems like there are 4-5 people that like to post garbage on this site. Most families would never talk down to another school. Many of the kids here came from other schools and Langley as well.
