Conn College for sure, and if full pay, Trinity?

Sewanee/Rhodes.

I second the CTCL suggestion. They are actually quite varied but most of them are not going to look down at someone with those numbers. The schools are serious but not that competitive. Many also give merit scholarships.

Their GPA stats are typically higher, but I’m sure they include weighted GPAs. They have early decision and I’m sure full pay would go a long way this fall.

I love the look of Furman. Is it super conservative though?

My son did an overnight there and his host was from California. We didn’t look into the political climate at schools, so I can’t really speak accurately to that, but it didn’t seem obviously one way or the other on the tour.

I went to one of the CTCL schools and got into the top PhD program in my field (bio-chem). The school really helped me grow. The classes were very challenging (I was very well prepared for the PhD) but the grading and the atmosphere weren't cut-throat. I don't think I would have survived as a STEM major elsewhere due to anxiety, disorganization and imposter syndrome.

Would you mind sharing which school? Our DD is interested in biochemistry, possibly grad school and has some anxiety tendencies. Thank you.

Might be a bit low for Elon. Elon went on the Common App this year and saw a huge jump in applications.

The Class of 2023 boasts an average SAT score of 1,241, an ACT score of 27 and an average GPA of 3.99.

That is probably a weighted gpa.

Yes, and north carolina schools weight their GPAs very heavily, so that may play into it also.

DD got into Elon with about same stats, slightly higher GPA but slightly lower ACT. Definitely in range.

This is DCUM. You should know that a student like that will never get into a selective college and will be a miserable failure in life. The sooner you accept that, the less painful it will be in the long term.

The world needs more welders, though. And mechanics.

I'm not the poster but I visited a few CTCL schools and was impressed. A few worth looking at include Beloit, Lawrence, Kalamazoo, Wooster, Puget Sound and Whitman.

I didn't focus that much on science facilities but Beloit looked amazing for bio students who want a very collaborative educational environment. The building was really impressive but the vibe was warm.

My kid with 3.0 GPA from a relatively tough school and 1340 SAT got $35K in merit aid from Ursinus. They then upped it by another $5K.

Sewanee/Rhodes.

Both Conn and Trinity are amazing, fit the OP's needs, are under-rated and need aware. However, a 3.0 GPA will be hard for admissions unless both full pay and Early Decision, and even then iffy since 30ACT is below their 75%. Being male will help also, especially at Conn ED.

PP here, and thank you, we've heard great things about K and this confirms it.

My DD has similar stats as OP’s son. DD is interested in nursing. Anyone have insight into Goucher? It’s a CTCL.
