SYC, she's up on their website. Coaching 2007 girls and 2011 girls, also Director Of Coaching for Girls U13 and up. We've loved our time at Gunston, but we're also leaving. OP is correct, best players (and the most committed players) are going to SYC or Alexandria. |
True. But i think that was cult of the coach and ability to take top team fully intact to another club. It made zero sense to me. A lot more about coaches and conflicts than differing philosophies. They are a good group and will do we no matter where they play. |
DD looked at Lee Mt Vernon as well since they're so close. Turns out they're losing even more players this year, and we weren't impressed with their structure. Alexandria is just as close, and SYC is maybe five-ten minutes more. Some teammates are going to Arlington. I'm not sure about the boys side, but it's probably the same three destination clubs. |
| We are looking to Alexandria as we don’t want to deal with the drama that seems to surround SYC with coaches, rosters etc |
We left for SYC last season, and we're gonna stay. There hasn't been any drama or whatever else from teammates or coaches. I will say though, that Alexandria is a great choice. We were split between Alexandria and SYC, for us it worked out because we knew more of the families/players. We've kept up with some previous families, many are doing the same thing: SYC or Alexandria. I think one is going for BRYC ( wants ECNL) but they were also looking at Arlington. Either way, we're happy. |
+1 I was concerned due to chatter/threads about the issues being with Este. Based on our experience they have tightened everything up and have a strong training program and built some strong teams. I wish some other LMVSC parents had joined us but from the ones I spoke to they plan on leaving this year. |
+1 Yes, there was a shift but I haven't seen any drama. I love the energy the new coaches brought to SYC. It seems like many of the coaches know each other either from high school or college days. They all work really well together. They brought a few "local" friends guest speakers who played professional soccer to talk to the kids. My kids loved that and I love seeing so much local talent! |
| ^^ I've heard many players from LMVSC and Gunston are looking to move to SYC. |
Hopefully get enough players to become the new alexandria! |
lmvsc and gunston should merge with alexandria |
Anything to rebrand. Named after a Confederate General AND plantation while being called the Patriots? lol okay please don’t talk too much about community and being good citizens |
So now they aren't about community because of a name established long ago. Not saying that name couldn't be changed but the fact that you seem to insinuate that their message is false because of their name is a bit of BS. Also not true some of the comments that many players are leaving. I'm sure a few are but don't expect many. From talking to parents on my kids' teams there don't seem to be many going. |
Im sorry I can’t hear you over the sound of tearing down statues established a long time ago lol nice try though |
Alexandria is named after a city formed to serve tobacco and slave markets, Arlington is named after a plantation, SYC is name for an 800 acre farm (i.e. a plantation)- it's almost like most landmarks in Northern Virginia are problematic |
Well I agree that statues should be taken down and that name should probably be rebranded but you are stating that they aren't about community b/c of their name. You're just trying to identify anything negative you can on this board. |
