If your "safety school" was also your first choice or close to first, what was it?

People saying Northwestern and Columbia are trolls. Match maybe. Safety? no.

+1. A few decades ago it was like that for out of state applicants as well.

Or they are talking about their own experiences back in the 80's-90's? Those schools used to be a lot easier to get into.

Several of the Colleges that Change Lives schools fit the bill. Our kid preferred several of them to top 25 and top 10 SLACs we visited. The CTCL schools are easy to get into by the standards of this board. My kid really liked a few we saw in the Midwest (Ohio, Michigan and Wisconsin) and out West (Oregon and Washington).

What makes you say Northwestern was a safety school for your kid? Serious question.

Perfect SAT score, 4.0 unweighted in the hardest courses offered at her high school, captain of varsity lacrosse, valedictorian, part time job at hardware store, captain of the robotics team, came from a high school where she did work each year with a local medical school and hospital in supporting a research team.

My dd is a rising freshman and super happy with her choice. It was her first choice all the way through the process. She has already met a ton of kids and they have zoom calls etc. Good luck to your dd!

Ohio State for DD. No regrets.

Whitman for my DD. They have her good money, too. Ultimately, she ended up choosing a different school. I really thought it was going to be Whitman.

Got into my first (Oberlin) and second (Kalamazoo) choices. Oberlin was a target and Kalamazoo was a safety.

U.Va was my safety school and second choice, but for law school rather than undergraduate. Got into my target and went there instead.
