Yeah. Come on PP. |
UVA. First choice initially had been the standard HYPS. Scores, GPA, rigor and ECs are high but still not earth shattering and zero hooks. In state for UVA, loved the campus and school spirit. Merit at second tier slacs and uni’s didn’t make sense compared to UVA in state. If we were in MD or DC it would have been a different calculation. |
Right now my daughter loves Wooster and it’s definitely a safety. She’s a recruited athlete and the coach is really great so I can see the draw. She also thought the students she met were really friendly. I wouldn’t be shocked if she picked it over a top 3 LAC |
Juniata, for my DC.
Started out as a safety...he got into 7 schools in total...and chose Juniata. So far, it is working out very well. So, it seems like he was onto something (i.e. fit). |

Instead of HYPS first choice here was MIT. Also didn't get in. We are in MD and it really wasn't a different calculation for UMCP and STEM. |

My husband went there and chose it over Cornell and Princeton because the Delaware honors program offered him a full ride. He then went on to Hopkins for medical school. We have a reunion yearly with his friends from the Delaware honors program and they're all rock stars--great people, fascinating careers. I wouldn't hesitate to send my kids there (they're not college age yet). |
Denison. Chose it over a top 10 SLAC because the merit scholarship money was irresistible, and the fit seemed good.
My kid has succeeded in every way there. It’s impossible to imagine that they could’ve done better anywhere else. |

Northwestern was my kid's safety school, but also the school she really wanted to be at most. Her target was U of Chicago and her reach was Yale. She got into both NU and U of C, did not get into Yale, but chose NU. |
What makes you say Northwestern was a safety school for your kid? Serious question. |
maybe it was 30 years ago? |
Ya right. With an admission rate of 6%? |
