| That is sad to read. Sports can contribute greatly to the physical and mental well-being of children and to their development with regard to skills like teamwork and handling outcomes gracefully. Sports take hard work, dedication and time management. I’d say these are important things. |
| Sports will return as will life. Just be patient. Humans got thru the Spanish Flu, we’ll get thru this. |
Do you actually think this would work? I mean honestly. Hoe many times did you personally or some of your closer friends with kids take their kids to free pick up around the area last year? I'm area free, advertised pick up alot and usually there are maybe 6-8 kids there. How much do you see kids playing in the street last year on their own? When was the last time you heard of a kid riding their bike a few miles to join in a pick up game? Your idea is great, but it's just not practical whatsoever. I wish it was, but it's not. It's fantasy land. |
| Outdoor futsal courts instead of tennis or b-ball courts in the 'hood like Brazil. That might eventually work - but probably not. |
| Youth sports will be fine, short term numbers may drop but they will come back |
There was no travel soccer for almost 80 years after the Spanish Flu. |
This is true |
Need to get rid of the pay to play non-sense. Money is corrupting the sport. Street ball is where the best develop their craft. Practicing under a paid coach at Bethesda has done little to help progress soccer in this country. |
Too late for that |
+1 |
Our model was supposed to get better when DA disappeared.... It did not. More leagues, more travel. |
Just a question...how many times did you take your kid to free pick up soccer last year? I ask because it's probably zero. Everyone wants some sort of regular street soccer, but noone ever takes their kid. How about after all this is lifted, people should actually take their kids to free pick up soccer so we at least can start building that culture. |

Is the youth model under threat? I don't think so.
Are some clubs under threat due to how they run things - sure. Fact of the matter is the pay-to-play model isn't going anywhere. The model evolves sure, but either way people are going to want to be paid for their time and fields. |
