Impressive post. Added a lot to the discussion. |
This is all I have hear from anyone who know someone at Elon--they love it and are happy. I mean, happy is absolutely great, but what about outcomes. This person wants to medical school. I think that shot will be much better at St. Joe's or Furman. I have a nephew who graduated from Elon and another who is still there now, and they are decent kids, but not very impressive intellectually, and I haven't felt that about anybody I know who went there. It's a nice school, with good, happy kids, but I would look very closely at outcomes. |
| Never heard of any of these schools. Have you tried to call first choice and ask for more aid. Say it is number 1 choice for kid. They may be willing to negotiate. |
+1, Signed Parent of Big 3 Students (where Tulane has become an ED favorite) |
| In this area, Elon is more known. St. Joe's and Furman are probably better known in their areas of the country. They are all different schools. Pick the one that is best for you. |

Elon is very Southern and preppy. If that’s your kid, they should go there.
Otherwise- I would choose St Joes. |
Well, they can't be any good then. |
You say this like it's a bad thing. Most of the Ivy League colleges were founded by evangelical Christians. |
Yeah some of them were slave traders too... your point is? (and yes for many students that IS a bad thing) |
Did you mean Furman? I have a kid at Elon and I wouldn’t say I definitely wouldn’t describe it as “very” southern and preppy. Most students there are from northern states, anyway. |
| Elon has the most geographic diversity. Over 70% of St Joseph’s comes from NJ or PA. |
Absolutely bad for me and my kid. Choose Elon. |
|
North or South = St Joe or Elon
unless Catholic vs Evangelical is a thing for you |
|
then Furman is in the mix
|
| Evangelical Christians - they are a very bad thing |
