Any word from Arlington?

If they join the GLA then Arlington will too with hopes of selling it to their families. If FCV is doing it then it must be good! EDP is an option for girls too but up to this point it has been light on the girls side. Arlington views the boys and girls separately and are not willing to base decisions for one looking at how it will impact the other. They are going to make the best decision for the boys team and then look at what options remain for their girls and will make the best available decision for the girls. If ECNL is not on the table for the girls they cannot chose it.

Makes sense and is a good plan if everything else makes sense. Why wouldn’t the MLS have a play in tourney for local boys non-MLS
Clubs so we can see who can hang on the merits? Seems like a better answer for everybody, including the MLS teams, who want the best competition.

MLS does not like competition and has no interest in admitting teams that can outperform their academies. Just ask Crossfire, which finished in the first place for two years in a row ahead of four MLS academies, and got relegated to tier 2 of DA.

Well it seems pretty silly to set any of this up based on tiers, or at least tiers that are club-based, not team-based. And if you buy that logic, then you should agree in principle to the idea of a play-in tournament or promotion based on EDP performance previous year for U14 teams. Unless the non-MLS DAs are also not too interested in competition on the merits.

I don't agree with this. They want actually more competitive games. In my opinion they have the wrong idea about how to go about this, but I do believe that is the goal.

Of course a boys coach would say that. Arlington has always done whats best for the boys and those coaches dont give to shits about the girls. The girl parents are not going to let the club roll over them again. Thats the problem when you have a TD that only cares about the boys and his ego.

Nonsense. They don’t need to be bundled. And if they are, you could be screwing over the boys in favor of the girls. Like BRYC, McLean and Loudoun. Go elsewhere if you don’t like it. It’s not like public schools. Pick your private school and move if your kid has talent and interest. Otherwise its youth soccer. That’s it.

They need to be bundled if ECNL only admits Arlington girls if Arlington boys join too. And as a junior girl parent, I see ECNL as the right choice for the girls. More Arlington girls were already in a serious recruiting pipeline with DA that just disappeared, and ECNL is the only proven substitute for that right now. Arlington only had boys DA up to U-15. Not even in HS yet so they aren’t getting as screwed over as the girls would be. I hope ECNL and Arlington do the right thing.

Well that just makes ECNL hypocritical and overbearing, not Arlington discriminatory. In any event, the logic applies both ways. If Arlington caves to a ridiculous demand like that (which did not apply to VDA and does not apply to Bethesda), then the better boys should move and play big boy soccer elsewhere in the area.

VDA and Bethesda’s top girls were already in ECNL. All those clubs did was shift the boys from DA to ECNL. Arlington’s girlS were in DA, as were their U13-U15 boys.

So what? What difference does that make? Bethesda continues to have boys outside ECNL. The point is that bundling is apparently a selective requirement. Sometimes necessary. Sometimes not.

I think the Arlington decision is complex because they have to figure out both boys and girls. And the best option for each isn’t the same. Either the boys go MLS and the girls go GAL (better for boys, worse for girls) or both go ECNL (better for girls, worse for boys). If MLS isn’t an option for the boys then I bet the whole club goes ECNL. Richmond United and VDA are campaigning to get Arlington boys to go ECNL, which might override Mclean and BRYC trying to veto ECNL on the girls side. Many moving pieces.

Amazing how girls ECNL parents think their teams and mid Atlantic division is so strong but the boys mid Atlantic which includes all former DA teams except DCU is so weak. Literally no self awareness whatsoever.

Amazing how girls DA parents bashed ECNL relentlessly but are now clambering to get in. And when ECNL parents mock them shamelessly here, they lash out with the same old trope.

I’m not so sure this is true. It seems that there is an ECNL driven campaign here to make the board think that people who are deep into recruiting will switch clubs. I don’t buy it for a second. They want to kill the new league before it gets off the ground. Someone who is deep into the recruiting phase has a lot more to fear from switching clubs into an environment where they may not even play to staying with their current teams where they have chemistry and showcase properly.

Your kid won’t make it in college off the bench if she needs chemistry to make her look good. Any top player can adjust and adjust fast to who she plays with.

I think what people have been saying is they are confident that they would land on a ECNL roster and displace a kid. What they aren’t sure about is if the change will even be necessary.

My kid plays ECNL in the DMV and I agree with you. The talent of the top 6-8 at FCV and Arlington impress. They can and will replace some of the starting 11 in ECNL. I for one want the better players. Why? Speed of play, reading the field and top training speeds that will help get my child ready for college. Skill pushes the skilled it’s just that simple.

The top players in DA are also going to pick the BEST ECNL teams first. FCV kids are not going to be interested in a bad VDA or Loudoun team.

So boys side determines where Arlington ends up with no real input from the girls side? The girls side will just have to go along with whatever the Arlington decides is best for the boys. Not a great thing if you are in the girls program.

ECNL is locking clubs out anyways. Arlington girls are not getting in regardless so the boys have to do what is best for them.

She has been told, but do you honestly care? How does your question serve you? I am actually giving FCV and Arlington praise for the talented players they have. On all teams there is always room for faster, smarter and just better players, my DD’s team is no different. If FCV or Arlington kids chose to stay with their team it won’t stop D1 colleges that are pursuing her to stop. I am just simply stating that I would love for that talent to come to my DD’s team. I don’t know your situation or your child’s talent nor do I care. All I know is my DD works even harder when she is challenged as any leader does and that will not only elevate her skills but also get her ready for the next level that will come soon enough. I for sure am not trying to persuade anybody to come, I am just making a comment.
