For the club this league does not sound really attractive. It’s a lot hard to sell to parents and really limits rosters when compared to the existing system. Also if you are not a MLS team how secure are you in this new league? |
We will see what it means. Nobody needs to decide now. The question is really what the objective for parents, kids, and clubs are, and whether this will meet it versus other things already available or easily obtainable. Let’s assume you are not in Tier One. Who are you playing if Bethesda and Armour are in Tier One and VDA and Richmond are gone? Even if Bethesda and Armour are available, who else would you play? Are you traveling to PA and NJ to play teams? Are the remaining teams likely to be better than local teams you could play (or local, Maryland, NJ teams you could theoretically play in EDP)? If so, do you need anything that is not already available? |
| I was told that at least one boys coach told his players that they are joining the MLS league. |
| It is called the MLS league so all the little boys are going to want to play in it. They are not going to be worried about tiers. Arlington will be doing this for sure. |
Of course a boys coach would say that. Arlington has always done whats best for the boys and those coaches dont give to shits about the girls. The girl parents are not going to let the club roll over them again. Thats the problem when you have a TD that only cares about the boys and his ego. |
Again, nobody has said Arlington or others will be playing in the MLS league. They have only said you would have a place to play. And any boy who knows his soccer is not going to be wowed by the MLS brand unless maybe you are on the MLS team. Not even 9 year olds are that dumb. Mine did not even want to go to DCU camps after he was 8. |
Nonsense. They don’t need to be bundled. And if they are, you could be screwing over the boys in favor of the girls. Like BRYC, McLean and Loudoun. Go elsewhere if you don’t like it. It’s not like public schools. Pick your private school and move if your kid has talent and interest. Otherwise its youth soccer. That’s it. |
Is there anything that says these leagues are mutually exclusive? With only two age groups, it seems like the MLS league is not going to have enough offerings for most clubs. Maybe the teams can play in both leagues. |
| I heard from a good source that Arlington boys will be joining both this MLS league and the EDP. They will put forth 2 teams (U15/U17) in this MLS league and the others will play in the EDP with hopes of someday getting on the MLS team. The girls are still waiting to see what FCV does. If they join the GLA then Arlington will too with hopes of selling it to their families. If FCV is doing it then it must be good! EDP is an option for girls too but up to this point it has been light on the girls side. Arlington views the boys and girls separately and are not willing to base decisions for one looking at how it will impact the other. They are going to make the best decision for the boys team and then look at what options remain for their girls and will make the best available decision for the girls. If ECNL is not on the table for the girls they cannot chose it. |
| It would be nice if Arlington could do ECNL and MLS since there are only 2 teams playing in this MLS league. I'm sure ECNL would never allow that. |
"I know there is a lot of discussion in the country. What I can say to every single non-MLS club which played in the DA is you will have a place to play," Lipka said. "We don't know exactly when it will be but MLS will help the community and support the community and first and foremost, the kids, in this country to play at a good level of soccer. ... We also have to be humble and honest. We have been doing a good job for maybe the last 4-5 years and I think people can see that now. We want to have the capacity to influence and to be aspirational for all kids and coaches and parents. |
BRYC, McLean and Loudoun parents are not stressing out about where their boys and girls will be playing next season. Arlington families, however, got hoodwinked by the USSF. Shame on the USSF for not having their best interests in mind, when it destroyed the boys and girls DAs. I feel bad for Arlington families and hope that Arlington kids will be able to find a good playing environment either with Arlington or with another club. |
Makes sense and is a good plan if everything else makes sense. Why wouldn’t the MLS have a play in tourney for local boys non-MLS Clubs so we can see who can hang on the merits? Seems like a better answer for everybody, including the MLS teams, who want the best competition. |
Obviously a girls soccer parent. I am sure those boys arent stressing about anything. Nor should they. Neither are people outside ecnl whose boys teams are demonstrably better. |
MLS does not like competition and has no interest in admitting teams that can outperform their academies. Just ask Crossfire, which finished in the first place for two years in a row ahead of four MLS academies, and got relegated to tier 2 of DA. |
