But many daycares (ours included) are not, for the safety of the children and the staff.

I agree that this is more about the parents than the kids, and they're using their kids as an excuse.

People are still going to the grocery store, picking up food, ordering packages... so while I get the idea that you *think* you're keeping the circle small... it's a facade. And a profoundly selfish, stupid thing to do.

Come up with other plans. I know people are frustrated, but so is everyone. Doesn't mean you have to stay locked indoors all day every day, but enact a little discipline.

Anyone who is currently sending their children to daycare right now if they are not essential should be ashamed of themselves. How can you possibly do that to the people who are essential and who have no choice but to use daycare?

Maybe so, but if you took the gamble at it backfires, no amount of regret will change your choice. You could be grocery shopping daily or not wearing bike helmets because the risk is low.

Thank God there are other people who think this, too. Also, I shudder to think what the teenage years are going to be like for these people who can't tell their young kids no you can't go play at the neighbor's for a while and here's why...

same. Except I have teens, so our "playdates" are "hang outs." Just one family, and both families first did 14 days of social isolation.
