Should be per household. Penalizes single parents who get $0 while making the same income as a childless married couple or family with one earner making the same or more. In both situations there is just one earner. How does that make sense?

Yes this makes no sense to me - I’m HOH with 2 dependents and make $160k. I get nothing but my friend who is a SAH and whose husband makes $160 will receive $3400

Yeah that's insane. Bad metric for sure.

Like someone said on another thread, PP could just shack up with a housemate and share expenses! It’s not about married couples getting more or less - it’s that one gets $1200 plus $500/kid per person and one gets $0 per person. For the same income.

BUT FOR A DIFFERENT NUMBER OF ADULTS. Why is this so hard for people to understand? A person is a person whether they're married and share a house or not.

150k married couple 2 kids: $3400
150k single parent 2 kids: $325

That seems wrong. I know that too many factors are out there for it to be perfect but damn, that's not right.

Believe me, two adults who share a house (with or without a marriage license) eat twice as much, wear twice as much, pay more for health care, operate twice as many cars, and etc. One person (with or without kids) does not have the same expenses as two. Why would you think they do?

I'm being obtuse- is it based off of AGI or taxable income?

If the married couple was able to handle these expenses before, why should they get extra money now?

Should have contacted your congressional representatives already as this is a done deal. People who meet the income requirements will receive the payments automatically.

Unemployment benefits are also going up, which is good. Not sure if/how all of the gig economy folks will be helped though.

We make 177k and have 3 kids. We are getting roughly the same amount as my brother and sister in law who combined made 50,000 in 2018. Our jobs aren't in jeopardy and my brother was laid off. The formula doesn't and can't take into account all these factors. It's awkward to think about.

for the same reason that everyone else is getting extra money now? the smoking hole of our economy?

my question as well. that's a big difference for most people.

Any clarification on whether this just comes off my refund next year or not? We got a large refund this year and I've considered adjusting my withholding, but no point if I'm just going to have the "pay back" the $3400.

It says on the calculator -- AGI.

NP glad I'm not the only one. I haven't done my 2019 taxes yet but thought AGI was the # before deductions, yet I keep hearing it referred to as gross income - deductions. Clearly I need to do my taxes....
