Should be per household. Penalizes single parents who get $0 while making the same income as a childless married couple or family with one earner making the same or more. In both situations there is just one earner. How does that make sense?

Yes this makes no sense to me - I’m HOH with 2 dependents and make $160k. I get nothing but my friend who is a SAH and whose husband makes $160 will receive $3400

Spouse is responsible for taxes on her MFJ return. Spouse is responsible for tax on interest earned. MFJ is a designation where two incomes (whatever the source) become one for tax purposes. There are benefits and potential penalties to filing jointly. It's not your problem or business how much your friend receives.

Yes, what's a "household" anyway? Government really doesn't need to be in the business of analyzing people's relationships and if they're roommates or a "household". Per human being is what makes sense.

Chalk it up against the marriage penalty.

I don't get it. ~$200K AIG HHI for 2018 with one child. Just for fun I put that into the calculator... and I'm getting $300? Why? I thought I'd get nothing. Anyone know?

it's a 5% phase out of income over $150k (if married).

So if you are married with one child your potential full amount is $1,200 * 2 + $500 * 1 = $2,900.
Then if your AGI is 200K, that is 50K over the phase out (200k - 150k). 50k * 0.05 = $2,500. Your potential credit is reduced by this amount.

$2,900 - $2,500 = $400 remaining credit you will get.

But it’s not, because you don’t get $1200 as a person above a certain income level while someone else at the same income level does.

So parents get $500 per kid 17 and under
College students are are declared as dependents by their parents, do not get the stimulus even if they have filed with income, but their parents do not get extra stimulus for them.

Maybe people will donate within networks of family and friends. We aren’t getting it either, but actually do need it because of out of pocket medical expenses for my father and wages lost in early 2020 getting him into a nursing facility.
