If it is safe to do so, WFCH will be reopening on March 30th, 2020. We have made the decision to do so in order to support our working families and to offer a sense of normalcy and safety to our students. Due to the changing circumstances and different opening criteria, we are no longer strictly following MCPS emergency closings. Instead, we will be making this decision in conjunction with CDC, Montgomery County Department Of Health and Human Services, and local education and health authorities.

This is insane!!! How can you ensure social distancing among toddlers and young kids?! Where does she place the safety of the kids and teachers?! What can parents and teachers do? Btw, she is not refunding the two weeks close and there was NO online class!

Here's the deal. They are banking on YOU (parents) CHOOSING to not send kids to the school. If they are "open", they can charge you tuition and it is your call whether or not you use the service you are paying for. Same idea is when your family goes on vacation - you choose what days you are just not going to be at the school and you pay tuition anyway.

If they are closed, they are going to be forced (maybe by lawsuits, parent pressure, or other means) to not charge tuition.

They are choosing the shifty way out so they can make families make the hard choice. That tells me all I need to know about the school and its leadership.

I didn't even think about that! How slimy.

If they don't charge tuition when they do reopen, they will not be able to reopen as their rent, utilities and teachers need to be paid. They will get evicted if they don't pay (and how do they catch up in paying rent) and teachers will find other jobs so you will not have child care to go back to. They are in a no win situation.

It’s a slime ball move to try to reopen during this epidemic. The big chains have remained open during the crises for essential workers. This school followed MCPS all of a sudden changes its tune and wants to reopen abd the situation continues to deteriorate

But this statement is true of EVERY rent paying small business across industries. Restaurants. Retail stores. Gyms/ fitness studios. Salons. Etc. For profit schools are not alone in this horrible challenge. But that doesn't make it right to open just so they can charge people for services they absolutely should not be using*.

*unless the school is opening to be open ONLY for emergency and front line workers on an as-needed basis

I know Bright Horizons is doing this and I think it is admirable and a much needed community service.

Most day cares are not heavy profit. All the other small businesses should have planned for a rainy day. Child care is a critical need for most families who work. We need them to stay in business. We don't need 10,000 nail salons, gyms, etc.

they are a day care center, not private school. How is it different for big chains?

They claim to be a Montessori school based on what OP wrote

OP gave false information to blame them. They are a day care/preschool. They are toddler through K.

This is a Montessori school. This is what on their website “ White Flint Children's House is accredited by the American Montessori Society (AMS).”

It's not different. Big chains that remain open are for essential workers' children only.

This concept of supporting "working families" is disgusting and is strictly for profit.

It's a hard pill to swallow, realizing who is truly essential during a world wide crisis.

We know a family of health care workers- both husband and wife are ER nurses. Their child is living with another family for the next month because they are terrified of exposing their child to coronavirus. When will people outside of the medical field take this seriously?

Are you really that clueless? Not everyone has family or friends to take their child. We have grandparents close and one is healthy enough and in 15 years, has never see the child for more than 2 hours at a time. I could be dying and my mom wouldn't help.

You are really selfish and clueless to not realize that everyone can't just dump their kids on someone else. How many kids have you taken in?

Pump the breaks with the insults. This was ONE example of a family of essential workers and the choice they had to make. This is a family who is loved and admired by the community. Lots of “friends like family”. Unlike you. You sound completely unhinged and isolated. Maybe if you were a better person,
your community would help you, especially during desperate times.

Communities need to step up during these desperate times!

I’m a parent of a young child at this school and they will need to provide negative tests of all teachers and staff before I bring my daughter back there. Disgraceful!

Are you willing to find the tests and pay for them? Even if they have a negative test now it doesn't mean anything. Its not as families need child care who have essential jobs. Are you willing to step up and care for some of your child's classmates so their parents can go do their jobs we need them to do? I don't see you offering. Would you prefer the doctors not go to work who can run the ventilator machines to keep your family member alive? Would you prefer your internet and utilities shut off as there is no one to run them or repair them? Would you prefer to go without food and other essentials because there is no one to work the stores as they are all home caring for their kids.
