I think that was the point of the article: to get others to identify this person since the author and her wife were not allowed to do so.

Duane Gilson is obviously mentally ill. There is no other explanation for his behavior.

But he really hurt those women, and he deserves to go to jail for it.

He won't but his career is over now. He's never going to work in academia again.

He also might just be a jerk that thinks he's entitled to a certain job/prestige.

This. Let’s not blame all bad behavior on mental illness.

What terrible publicity for MCLA. It's a small, public liberal arts college. My SIL went there. Very nice school. He should be fired immediately.

I’d love him to lose his job for being a horrific tw@t. But what would be the grounds for firing him?

Title IX is an utter joke in universities and academia. Accused cannot have legal representation and they cannot cross-examine the accuser. Accused are found guilty and branded as rapists based on preponderance of evidence, the lowest possible standard - basically neutral and a feather in the accuser's account. And considering sexual harassment/assault allegations the victim is immediately believed, there's basically no chance of an acquittal.

Any suspension/expulsion/firing based on Title IX charges of sexual harassment/assault is entirely illegitimate. The laws need to change before it seeps into the criminal justice system and workplace harassment laws. After that, its not only college-aged boys having their lives ruined, but every man in the country.

Bless you. I read that article when it first came out and was dying to know. That guy 100% deserves to be named and shamed.

This whole story just drives home for me what I have always believed since my own days in a graduate arts program, that that world is truly messed up. I used to work in the slide library of a top university art history program and things I heard those professors talk about when they didn't know I was there was horrifying and made me stop before at a master's degree. Really messed up world.

What a horrifying system.

And we believe China is a totalitarian state?

According to someone who responded to this tweet, Duane is moving on to a different University.

Academia sucks.........so so soooooooooo bad.

It is a toxic wasteland of insane politics, and relying on funding and publishing papers is a soul sucking endeavor that blows.

That's on top of having to deal with increasingly loony ID politics and professional victims that take shelter in academia because it isn't based in reality.

I think it's pretty clear that the guy has a personality disorder.

ASU really messed up that investigation. It never should have even gotten off the ground with that kind of allegation.

Yeah, it’s funny. I know so many people who entered academia because they were incredibly smart and just wanted to be in a field where they could get ahead based on their smarts and their intellectual capabilities...not their political savviness and ability to “network” as is often the case in say a corporate environment. But alas...that’s just not how academia works.

I'm not conspiratorial, but I am kind of wondering if this was a set-up for the Joe Biden allegations. This story is crazy and it kind of makes you question why people weaponize Title 9.

In academia, Title 9 is the new duel used by the elites. Instead of selecting fancy pistols you now select from exotic protected classes.

Finally got a chance to read the NYT article. So interesting how just the existence of an accusation blinded the author to the fact that she was a victim.
