Real paper mail? Have they gone out? |
| According to reddit of past, electronic notification happens at once thought snail mail may happen shortly before or after. My dd did not have bk listed in the checklist so did not get selected. |
Everyone that applies is considered for the Honors college, which is the first cut. I don't understand this comment. |

MOCO
1600/36 Toughest course load, perfect GPA Great mix of ECs including sports, service and leadership. EA into HYSP In at Honors No BK in portal. Maybe they all aren't out yet? Not that my kid "deserves" one, but it would be surprising that they are not in the running |
I meant for non-B-K funds. |
I’m the poster you quoted. You’re right that to be considered for b-k you had to have been accepted to Honors College. It’s also the case (according to Reddit posters) that students who are candidates for B-k got a notification via their coalition app on Saturday. In years past, according to Reddit and CC, students also got a letter (red envelope) via USPS either shortly before or after the electronic notification. Tl;dr if your kid does not have an update on the checklist then your kid was not selected as finalist. There are still additional merit scholarships announced later this month. |
Unfortunately not in the running. My kid has similar stats. Nothing in portal. |
My kid had the same stats last year and received admission to the Honors program, but no B/K consideration. Got $5K merit aid. |

DC had those stats in a magnet. Nothing. DC was not really surprised as they know 10 students in their class with similar stats that want the same major. Having all those stats for engineering or comp sci is NOT the same as having them for chemical physics or statistics. |
I understand your disappointment but BK are not given out by majors. |

My son received a full B/K and loved his time at Maryland. I don’t know how they select recipients, because while my son had excellent SAT scores and diverse interests, he didn’t have national awards or anything like that. He came from a magnet school that UMCP loves (Eleanor Roosevelt in Greenbelt), and he interviewed well.
His twin sister also went to Maryland, but she didn’t receive merit money. Essentially her brother subsidized her.

URM? |
Do parents have advanced degrees? That knocks the kids out. |
Why would that matter? |
Nope, white and wealthy, no hooks. |
